595162 2007-09-26 08:28:00 I typed in the ipconfig.
"Ethernet adapter local area conn.3
connection-specific DNS Suffix :
IP Address :10.1.1.3
Subnet mask :255.0.0.0
Default Gateway"

Did you for get to put in the default gateway address or is it blank like you put. ?

The default gateway should be 10.1.1.1

If the default gateway is not showing then the PC is not talking correctly to the router - its getting an address but its only half working.

If its not there just to confirm open CMD agin and type in ping 10.1.1.1
(press enter)
You should get an answer / reply from it. 3-4 times

Can you ping an outside address try ping 203.96.152.4

Thats Telstras DNS servers, dont worry if you are not with telstra they should still answer.

This will test if you have an actual working internet connection.

595167 2007-09-26 10:32:00 Yes The default Gateway address is blank .
Okay that look like the problem - Try this - look at This page Windows 2000 ( . cae . wisc . edu/site/public/?title=2kconfigtcpip" target="_blank">www . cae . wisc . edu) Force the TCP/IP setting to pick up the router .

First go to a PC thats working open CMD and check the Following .
Type ipconfig ( press enter) <<< think you'll have the idea now

you should get 10 . 1 . 1 . ?
Subnet Mask 255 . 0 . 0 . 0 <<<<< (note these numbers if different)
Default Gateway 10 . 1 . 1 . 1 ( Same as above Note)

Next type ipconfig /all

Note what DNS server numbers are

NOTE: make sure the last numbers in the IP address are different, each PC MUST have their own seperate last number in the IP Address .

If any other PC has . 3 last give the 2000 PC another number between 5 & 254 - (check other PC's on the network first noteing their numbers . )

Now in the 2000 PC go to the local Area Network connection - follow the page link above . And enter the settings:

In the IP Address 10 . 1 . 1 . 3 ( since thats what it wants to give) let it have it .

In Subnet mask 255 . 0 . 0 . 0 <<<<<<< or what ever the working PC shows

Default gateway 10 . 1 . 1 . 1 <<<< or as other default gateway .

Save settings .

Reboot and try that .

If it doesn't work try adding in the DNS servers address from previous test .

You ONLY have to go as far as step 5 In the page link above - no further .

The modem side of the router should be issueing the DNS server numbers but with win 2000 you sometimes have to force them . If you add the DNS in . - Reboot - try internet again . If not working Open CMD

Try ping 74 . 125 . 19 . 104 <<<<<thats google . co . nz

If that doesn't work down load This program ( . net/downloads/winsockfix/" target="_blank">aaron-kelley . net) and run it . You may have to reenter the IP address in TCP/IP again .

Try that .

If all that fails download and run Dial a Fix ( . djlizard . net/Dial-a-fix" target="_blank">wiki . djlizard . net) it will blow the TCP/IP stack and rebuild it to default then you may need to enter the addresses again . That sounds rough but the TCP/IP stack is the whole link to the internet .

There are 5 layers in that stack and only 1 needs to be broken to fail .

Let us know how you get on please .

PHEW!!!  Glad it got going .

Out of interest, how far through the instructions did you have to go to fix the problem . - I tried to cover the lot .

Regarding the web cam - I suspect it may have been "one of those things" . Or maybe not compatable with win 2000 ?

If it was a "cheapey" web cam, they can cause more problems than they are worth . Best to stick to "name Brands" that are reccommended by others .
