594362 2007-09-24 02:59:00 Another thing is, does XP's or Vista's built in cd burning FINALISE the cd??

I dont know, I dont use the built in cd burning.

That maybe another reason why the CD's cant be read on other computers, besides Windows?

Most of the publishers I deal with have an FTP server that i can dump work into and they have it instantly...
Of course you could do the same at your end.. Obtain some free server space ( available all over the place these days ) and upload the images. Email the publisher a link to download them..
Submitting stuff on CD via post/courier is just a drag..

You obviously don't deal with many trade publications, national groups like Fairfax or government departments! Some say "oh, just email them" but even if I resize the images to about 1MB they bounce back as their mail system won't accept large files! Add to that the fact I take about 100 photos per job (some of which they use as file photos) so copying to CD and posting takes far less time than uploading images to a remote server.

Also, I live in the country and have a pretty crappy excuse for broadband so there's no point me paying for more than the basic package because it's not available to me - so my 1GB limit would be gone in a heartbeat.

Speedy, yes, if you click on 'eject' a message appears to say that the disk is being finalised so it can be used in any computer so there's no way of missing that step.

594365 2007-09-24 04:57:00 Beemer - Did that product key come through at all on a PM, and was the Ashampoo any use to you. wainuitech (129)
594366 2007-09-24 05:13:00 Agreed - emailing files is a joke which is why I have 200GB of server space to dump files to:)
Having said that, I'm still surprised at how many NewsPaper and Magazine editors find accessing an FTP server is beyond them. No wonder they cant read your CD's...:waughh:

Ouch! Igb data limit.. you have my sympathy....:(

Getting back to your CD/DVD problem - the Win/Mac read-conflict is very real - had the same issues when a library requested RAW files on Data-DVD
Nero is probably your best bet. You get a new Nero CD with every CD or DVD drive that you buy - so I have a few spare here :) - contact me if you want one.

594367 2007-09-24 05:44:00 Wainuitech, yes thanks, I did get the PM with the code in it. I've downloaded it but haven't got anything I want to copy at present so I haven't tested it.

Racepics, I got a CD of Nero when I got my last CD drive (old computer) but have no idea where it is now. I didn't find it that user-friendly - every time I tried I seemed to encounter problems. Mind you, that was about three or four years ago so it may have improved now.

I tend to only use 1GB because my downloading is mostly opening and viewing pages online rather than downloading music, etc or gaming. But I have noticed that I am regularly exceeding my limit now I have changed to Paradise's PDQ (yeah right!) plan. With Xtra I never got the "you have reached 80% of your limit" email but almost every month I go over my 1GB with Paradise. I am doing an online course right now so that could be the reason for the extra usage but it's annoying because I always exceed it a few days from the end of the billing period so I only get to use about 100MB of the next 1GB!

I wish there was some easy way to pass on my photos but at this stage CD and post is the easiest. The army has a server that they can all access but because I am a contractor I don't have access to upload anything so that is out for me.

At least it's easier than prints and negatives!

594368 2007-09-24 06:02:00 Personally I've found Nero 6.0 to be the nicest, easiest to use etc.. Version 7 seems to be somewhat bloated and harder to navigate. But these days I use linux/k3b, hence all the unused nero coasters :)

Paradise PDQ is what I have - and its good and fast most of the time - but I'm not rural so thats probably where its comin unstuck for you. 10-20GB per month allows for a few Linux ISO's and plus there are 4 puters here all eating at it....

You can get 200GB of server space at dreamhost.com for about $10/mnth. They have a cool user panel to setup anything you need in that space.

Usually the Nero discs supplied with the drives are OEM versions, and are tied to and will only work with, those drives :illogical:D

Not so. I placed my copy of Nero6. OEM, on a new Liteon drive, that came with Nero7.OEM ... Works perfactly!
