| 595417 | 2007-09-27 02:59:00 | Hey, I have come across a strange problem that I have never seen before. Customer is running a brand new PC with Vista Home Premium 32-bit. Mainboard is an Asus M2A-VM HDMI. It has onboard ATI x1250 graphics. It worked fine for about a week but now every time they boot into Vista for some reason the screen resolution is set to 640x480. They have to go and change to 1280x1024 to match the 19" LCD. It will stay like this until the PC is rebooted. I got them to download the latest ATI drivers for the x1250 but that hasn't made any difference. They live out of town a bit so before I head out there myself to have a look, anybody come across this before? |

Enable low resolution video (640x480) The next option in the above list is Enable low resolution video (640x480). This option is used when there is a problem with the display card, display drivers, such as Windows trying to load corrupted display driver into memory. This mode is also used while resetting the display properties. |

I haven't used Vista much, where do I look for the setting you mentioned? What I found / put above was relating to fault finding - so working in reverse - the drivers could be corrupted and not loading - hence defaults to safe settings. Vistas Native Display Settings: Right click on a blank area of the desktop and select Personalize and then click Display Settings. There you can change the Screen resolution , colors as well as the monitor refresh rate by clicking the Advanced tab. If the Drivers are installed correctly There may also be an Icon in the Tool bar showing the ATI Display options. I normally use Nvidia so I don't know if ATI have the same options. When Ever I have worked with the Catalyst Control Centre - I always seem to get troubles - but that could just be me :D So when install drivers I leave it out. |

Yea I normally use nVidia as well but this is onboard so not much option :) I will try without the CCC and see if that makes any difference. Do you know if there is a removal/cleaner tool for ATI? I know there is one for nVidia which goes through the registry etc to make sure the all traces of the driver are completely removed. |

They say theres one on the ATI site, but I can't locate it- no doubt its well hidden, but I did find This Article (www.tweaktown.com) That says how to do it, might work with Vista ? |

| 595423 | 2007-09-28 06:57:00 | Thanks for that. Went out there today. It wasn't a driver problem. The resolution would do the same thing even with standard vista graphics drivers. Traced the fault to some Wireless USB drivers that were loading on Startup. Removed them as there is no wireless USB device and problem fixed. |
