595369 2007-09-27 02:30:00 Yes another thread on the subject...:o

I've finally got my new system up and running using 32bit Vista but I'm still stuck with dial-up for the moment, I haven't been online with it as I don't have complete confidence in Windows Defender.

I've downloaded versions of Ad-Aware, SpyBot and AVG for Vista but I don't have a firewall yet.
The Vista version of Comodo appears to be still beta which puts me off a bit. I tried the XP version of ZoneAlarm and didn't like it so I'm not expecting the Vista version to be any better.
PC Tools has a firewall for Vista but I've never heard of it and I haven't found anything yet on the PressF1 about it.

Can anyone recommend a software firewall for Vista?

Thanks

595370 2007-09-27 02:38:00 Anything wrong with using Comodo?
Sure its still beta, but its still not bad.
They can't be too far away from finishing it anyway.

595371 2007-09-27 02:48:00 if you dont like the Free ones then you are going to have to pay for them -Comodo as you mentioned is still in beta and Zonealarm IS working perfectly. But you have to get the right one. The XP version will not work on Vista.

Here is the Vista Version Of Zonealarm FREE (www.pcworld.com) I use Zonealarm on all the Vista PC's I build - No worries at all.

595372 2007-09-27 02:48:00 I use Comodo on my XP notebook and I have not problems with it, just the thought of beta doesn't fill me with confidence.
I have signed up for the Comodo beta forum but I haven't found a download link yet.
Is anyone using the Comodo beta firewall on Vista? What's like?

595373 2007-09-27 02:54:00 I have downloaded the free ZoneAlarm for Vista but I don't really want to use it, it's the very LAST resort.
I use Steam and play HL2 and when using ZA on XP I had trouble with it always blocking Steam even if I had set permissions to allowed. Perhaps I didn't have ZA set up correctly...

i\If the permissions are set up then it shouldn't be a problem. I do know that some people here have all sorts of funny problems with Comodo latley - Don't know why though.
I tried it several months ago and found it did have a few problems, but every Firewall does until you learn it's "secrets" / Settings. I think Its what you get used to using.

595375 2007-09-27 05:41:00 What about the PC Tools firewall? Has anyone used that one?

What firewalls do other Vista users have installed?

595376 2007-09-27 05:54:00 I have Vista and until Comodo doesn't release a proper release, I'm just relying on the inbuilt Windows firewall. No way am I EVER running ZA again  beeswax34 (63)
595377 2007-09-27 10:31:00 I'm using the Vista firewall as well. One less program running.

Good luck with dial-up - on average it'll spend the first half hour of every session bogged down trying to update everything all at once! For your sake I hope I exaggerate!

595378 2007-09-27 11:05:00 I'm using th Vista firewall as well, but with the addition of "Vista Firewall Control". (Free version). www.sphinx-soft.com
It allows instant control of outgoing like other firewalls.
