595187 2007-09-26 07:45:00 Hey folks, first time poster here so here goes:

After having every D-Link router I touch die on me, I replaced my 504-T with a shiny Linksys WAG200g, and I love it to bits, everything a router should be.

At the same time, I was kindly gifted a Xbox360, now the problem I had is that my router, and PC are at one end of the house, the 360 at the other, so instead of forking out $200 for the official Xbox wireless adaptor, I purchased a wireless LAN card for $50 and just shifted the router to next to the xbox.

Now that I've done that, I've noticed that my latency is all over the damn place on the PC, naturally the Xbox is fine as it's connected to the router via patch cable, but my poor PC is being hammered, I'm getting what almost appears to be packet loss in online games, I've remedied the problem for now by going back to my old setup (PC connected to router via Patch cable) and instant solution, gone back to being as fast (And reliable) as it ever was.

So the problem is definately the wireless, but at which end? Well my girlfriends Acer laptop, sitting next to my PC, doesn't suffer any of the same problems, so it's not interference from the TV, stereo ETC, so I'm down to blaming my PCI Wireless card.

Is there anyway to increase the speed/efficiency of the card? when connected it says connected @ 54mbps, and that the signal strength is "Excellent" it never deviates from this, so I don't think the connection is to blame, but rather the speed in which the card... I don't know, interfaces with the network?

If there's any settings somewhere I can tweak with this, that'd be awesome (If anyone knows)

The WNIC is a: "ASUS 802.11g Wireless Network Adapter"

Thanks for any help/tips/advice on this issue!

Do you NEED it?

595189 2007-09-26 08:01:00 Well I assume that there's a QoS setting somewhere that's causing problems, sorry that my initial post is unclear, should have a "?" after "QoS Related"

The problem is that while playing online games, or anything that requires a constant stream of data, eventually dies out or hangs for extended periods over the wireless network, the problem is isolated (I suspect) to the NIC I have, as no other wireless adapters on the network are experiencing the same problem, regardless of physical position of both the Router, and the connecting devices.

WiFi is by nature not designed to be a streaming delivery system which is why the WMM extension was designed and the MIMO dual radio system was designed.

Depending on the amount of data you send and receive you could try tweaking the TCP/IP settings with the likes of DrTcp and see if that helps you.
