| 595221 | 2007-09-30 02:09:00 | Another cause maybe a long line from the wall jack to the modem, try to keep this as short as possible. I have a Linksys, and there are some days when the damn connection puts a whore's draws' to shame, however a quick (err I mean patient) call to Telecom for a port reset usually resolves this.. You maybe in a high demand area. I have never heard of a port reset, but it sounds interesting. Do they do it straight away ? Another words is it their software ? or does a technician need to go to your exchange ? (as when they install ADSL) If one is in a high demand area, do you think Telecom will cut you off to let others on ? Regards Digby |

But just restart and all is well again. I spent $200 on a new modem last week and it has made no difference to speed or reliability. I have a 30 meter extension cable from my jack point to my computer. This is causing no problems. I carried my computer to the jack point and plugged it in. No difference in performance. My problem is I use 3 US Based servers and 2 Oz ones. Could be distances involved. Or very fragile software. Overall though I am reasonably happy |

And was easy as, to configure, to get onto the net. I did read on the Dlink site, that you can have disconnection probs, if you're using a LONG phone extension. I spose this depends on how good the modem is. I think the extension cord here is 10m or something. May check to see if I get better DL speeds, (altho its not that bad atm), if I plug the filter directly into the phone jack. |
