2007-09-26 09:10:00 | Hi yeah My line has a splitter so alarm is no issue and also tried disconnecting other phones ect as instructed by xtra but the problem still contiuned they said they wernt sure what was causing it and would monitor my line and get back to me with a solution. This was 10 months ago If you have an alarm and have had a full install done with a splitter installed why are you using filters on your phone jacks.

2007-09-27 09:26:00 | I had this happen to me when I first got BB and after asking round found what I think may be the answer >>>> They do like there own power supply, not shared with any thing else. It now only happens once a week if I am unlucky enough. | jontee (11618) | |
2007-09-27 10:07:00 | I use a 502T and it is solid . I know that doesn't mean much but it is at least as good a statement as those that say buy another one . You certainly can get left on your own with a problem like this . It is even worse if you don't use xtra as there is another ISP in the line! The problem could be the modem, line (external or internal) or xtra's port connection . Presumably they reset your port?? With the central splitter the internal line SHOULD be OK . The only way a non-techy can help diagnose where the problem lies is to substitute modems . This is also tricky if you can't get a spare to try . Either get your modem on someone else's line or get another one on yours . However, this may entail changing settings which you said you couldn't do . Otherwise, you may just have to get the Telecom tech in and pay up if the problem lies with your gear as the suggestions from us get to be guesswork after the obvious things are done .

If Noise Margin is down around 5dB, and the Attenuation is up around 45 dB or more, then you may well get erratic results as well as lower speeds. |

2007-09-27 12:08:00 | I also have the 502-T modem/router and it is always on. It only gets turned off on... um.. it doesn't. Never had any problems with it overheating or any other trouble whatsoever. I have, however, had your exact same problem before. The random disconnection service (as I call it) that Xtra so lovingly gives free of charge to some of their customers. I would be very doubtful if it is a problem at your end. I had the exact same scenario, alarm system, multiple phones in the house, bla bla, tried all the filter tests, bought new filters, tried the isolation test, but NOTHING worked for me. In the end I resorted to ringing Xtra every few minutes and demand that they fix the problem. It turned out that it was their problem. I was connected to a faulty port down at the exchange. A simple replacement and haven't had a single disconnection in over 6 months - not one. So get on the phone, and tell them to "FIX IT NOW!"

2007-09-27 21:38:00 | Another cause maybe a long line from the wall jack to the modem, try to keep this as short as possible. I have a Linksys, and there are some days when the damn connection puts a whore's draws' to shame, however a quick (err I mean patient) call to Telecom for a port reset usually resolves this.. You maybe in a high demand area.
