595833 2007-09-28 00:31:00 A Dell technician came to my house and replaced the motherboard due to a video error (this fixed the problem). But now, everything is so sluggish. I even reinstalled Vista to make sure that was not the cause. Here are the results of a benchmark. Results should be several times higher. What could be the cause?

Of course, when the new motherboard was installed, all BIOS settings were wiped. Though, being a Dell, the available settings to the user are somewhat limited, so I can't see any settings relating to memory.

What can/should I do?

Performance Tips
Notice 5405 : System bandwidth appears FSB limited. Attempt to increase FSB.
Notice 5008 : To change benchmarks, click Options.
Notice 5004 : Synthetic benchmark. May not tally with 'real-life' performance.
Notice 5006 : Only compare the results with ones obtained using the same version!
Warning 5400 : Low bandwidth efficiency (advanced). Check memory timings and settings.
Tip 2 : Double-click tip or press Enter while a tip is selected for more information about the tip.

595834 2007-09-28 00:49:00 is the memory configured differently. as in was it in dual channel before and now in single channel mode? as that would make a diff.

although im assuming you have a pair of matched memory sticks. if ya have just the one. my comment is useless.

595835 2007-09-28 00:55:00 I have two 1gb sticks, but as I said, Dell's BIOS setup is pretty limited, so I'm not sure where I can change that setting. asubstitute (12850)
595836 2007-09-28 01:04:00 usually depending on how many memory slots there are. to run in dual channel you put a stick in slot 0/1 and 4/5 or 2/3 and 6/7 which would be slot 1 and 3 or 2 and 4.

but if it only has 2 memory slots i wouldn't know. as far as i know going into dual channel is not a manual option. does it automagically :P

on most non-store bought. I.E as in custom built stuff. the RAM slots are colour coded to tell ya which ones are used to enable dual channel.

probably not the best answer. im sure others may know something.

There is some information about my computer. Do the memory timings look normal? Is there anything there that leaps out at anyone?

Tom.

595838 2007-10-03 16:44:00 My name is John, and I work as a support analyst at Dell headquarters.

I checked over that screenshot, and your memory is currently running in dual channel mode, and everything looks as it should, from what I can see.

If things are running sluggish, even though you did reinstall, my first instinct is to follow the following troubleshooting steps to see if anything improves:
