595589 2007-09-27 07:54:00 I am going to replace my CD burner with a DVD burner. If I follow this correctly a CDR Writer with DVD Rom will still only burn CD's but will play & read DVD's. Whereas a say "Dual Layer DVD Writer" will read write & burn both CD's & DVD's Have I got this right? Yes I have just arrived into the 21st century!!!!! amyes5 (2773)
595590 2007-09-27 08:16:00 A DVD burner will read/write cd's and DVD's.

And play DVD's

Dual layer means it'll burn to dual layer blank DVD's (8.5 GB), compared to standard blank DVD's (4.7 GB).

If on the other hand, you brought a standard DVD burner (not dual layer), it'll do all of the above, except burn to dual layer blank DVD's.

If its a question its not stupid. You are right in what you say.

DVD writers do the lot.

A DVD-ROM will play DVDs but will not burn them = correct.
