Find out the brand of your HDD and do a full diagnostic on it, it may have developed some bad sectors. Is the PC generally slower than you think it should be? Post a HJT log. |

You can try this - Go to Start>> Run: Type in: CMD and click OK. At the resulting prompt, type in: chkntfs /d [Enter] See if that stops it. |

| 595197 | 2007-09-27 00:12:00 | Go to Start / RUN and type chkdsk C: /r type in Y *Assuming your Hard Drive Letter is C, if not change to what ever it is This will run chkdsk next time you restart the PC. As Wratterus said there is a problem there someplace and it needs to run, if it doesn't it will continue until it has run. I did find some time back a command to cancel / dismount chkdsk, but I think it only works on ntfs file systems. But you can try. start / run type in CMD then type in chkdsk /x select Y Reboot. See what happens. |

Back up the reg by either system restore or opening the reg Start/run type in regedit then File/export to a safe place ( C: Drive for example) Remove the command to run chkdsk on startup. Open regedit Start/run regedit ( enter) Navigate to the following reg keys ( BE VERY CAREFUL you get the right ones) When you locate BootExecute double click it to Edit it. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet \Control\Session Manager Change the BootExecute entry from: autocheck autochk * /......... <<<<(remove anything after autochk *) To: autocheck autochk * Close reg editor - Reboot. Note: If there is a problem with the HD, while the above reg hack may stop the chkdsk from running it WONT fix the HD problem. |

| 595200 | 2007-09-27 21:50:00 | You can try to fix it so it goes back to yesterday when it was kind of working. Try running system restore in command prompt - if you can boot into safe mode. Run System Restore in Command Prompt 1. Boot into Safe mode with Command Prompt Keep Pressing F8 at start-up then with the arrow keys select Safe mode with Command prompt. 2. At the command prompt, type C:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe Press Enter. (Assuming your main Drive is C:) Follow the instructions given to perform the System Restore process. |
