2007-10-01 03:36:00 | I am in the market for a ADSL router. I want to get a ADSL+2 model (for the future ?) And I want one with 4 switches built in. One wireless connection would be nice. I hear that Linksys is being phased out by Cisco ? Are D Link and Dynalink the one and the same brand ? Are Netgear and Belkin good ? Regards Digby

2007-10-01 03:51:00 | I bought a Belkin recently from Noel Leemings. ADSL 2+ compatible, 4 ports, wireless, and easy to set up. ~$200 And no, D-Link and Dynalink are not the same... D-Link are considered as crap :)

2007-10-01 03:52:00 | Are D Link and Dynalink the one and the same brand ? No. And it doesn't matter that much - contrary to people who blame their issues on them all the time. I've only ever had 1 dead one and that was a Dlink in case you needed to know. I have personally owned Speedtouch, Billion, Dlink and Dynalink. Been happy with them all.........

2007-10-01 03:57:00 | I have a Belkin ADSL2+ 4 port router non wireless, which I have had for a couple of weeks which I bought from Harvey Normans. Runs well. If you play online games I wouldn't recommend wireless. :)

2007-10-01 09:24:00 | I have installed many Linksys WAG200G units. Awesome units and have the best wireless range I have seen on an ADSL / 802.11g unit. They range in price, depending on where you buy, but shouldn't need to pay more than $200.

2007-10-01 09:37:00 | Against my better judgement I purchased a Netgear DG834G from Noel Leemings, and as expected paid $50 above what its retails for elsewhere. Tragic. The issue was that I was in a rush (adsl had been enabled and I discovered I had given away my entire stash of routers) I had walked out of DSE when the sales-child took more then 6.3 minutes to emerge from the backroom with the requested goods, and I refuse to shop in Harvey Normans. Anyhow, apart from getting fleeced, Im impressed with it, Looks good, perfectly easy to set up, The features are impressive not only in their abilities but also ease of use. Just as an example, You can nominate a PC on the network, and then restrict its network access to specific hours, and block sites for specific PCs. I have no use for these features but I could see them being extremly useful in a house with kids.

Setting up wireless was not too bad. |

2007-10-01 10:52:00 | Haven't played with wireless yet so have disabled it. Going to buy a slightly more modern wireless networking card for my laptop. Looking forward to playing with the encryption and different locations around the house. Damn, There's that damn geek in me talking again.
