1419291 2016-04-18 17:17:00 Do 'devices' that are just on-line and not actually doing anything, suck off any of my useable 'internal pipe'?

IOW: do things like tablets and desktop units that are on and signed-in, yet - and in the case of the tablets - their covers closed, putting their screen to sleep - actually using any internal from-router-to-devices bandwidth?

I realize that if they are receiving updates, then all bets are off .

I hope that 'bandwidth' is a correct term for hook-ups this side of the router .

Is my question clear or did I muck it up in bad terminology?

1419292 2016-04-18 20:20:00 No.
But Windows has a lot of phone home **** going on in the background, then there are all the other programs etc doing updates and reporting back etc etc

1419293 2016-04-18 22:31:00 Thanks, PC. I know Windows seems to do a lot of hdd activity when it's left alone to itself too.

Shuffling chairs on the Titanic I presume.

1419294 2016-04-18 23:22:00 Android might get notifications while apparently sleeping, but it's a fairly insignificant amount of data. Occasional as you said updates may happen as well. Any active windows device probably will use a little, but if sleeping there should be none.

It's not just windows that get's updates in the background though, some programs can do it also. I doubt you are a gamer like myself but there was one month when me and my then boarder both received the same 6GB game patch on the same night and used up all my remaining data for the month.

These days on unlimited fibre I don't concern myself with such things

1419295 2016-04-19 01:47:00 Dugi: that would be tough using all your cap like that .

So, it's two-for background blood suckers and so far no-one saying it doesn't happen .
