1414234 2016-01-10 08:40:00 Hey guys,

In about a week's time, I have to have prepared a 20 minute lesson on any topic I want, to judge my teaching technique.
I am absolutely stumped for ideas. I'm into cars and technology, but the problem is these restrictions:

Don't have a laptop
Have to have an opening interest (which has to be entertaining and relevant)
Have to have student activites

I was thinking of doing a combustion engine or how a computer works (Like each part), but without a computer it becomes difficult, and the opening interest stumps be.

Cheers.

When I did my teachers practice course in the Air Force I had the same task. I did the 100E carburettor I had a workshop manual with some good diagrams in to make OHPs.

Haha, it's the air training for which is similar kind of! Carburettors aren't exactly interesting, but doing the whole engine and relating it to planes, that could work but been told it's a bit simple for the age group (18-19 year olds), cause I was going to cover the axis of flight and principles of flying too.

1414238 2016-01-10 22:10:00 How about how wings work, even knowing that it's the air flow over the wing creating low pressure above it's easy to fall into the trap of think air under the wing pushes it up. Then get tricky and talk about how helicopter blades need variable pitch to compensate for lift increasing on one side and decreasing on the other due to forward movement. I think that could be interesting and challenging.

I also find it a little funny that in these days of kids googling their homework and asking people on forums to do it for them here we have someone learning how to teach by doing the same thing :)
Please don't think I'm having a go, it's a resource you'd be crazy not to use. I'm not a teacher of any kind either so feel free to ignore me (I'm sure plenty do :))

Yeah I was thinking that, maybe covering mainly how planes fly, from general wing physics to engine combustion to the three axis of flights. My problem was in 20 minutes it might be hard to cover, as well as diagrams might be hard to get. Also maybe a bit simple for these guys? I don't know.

And yeah, I've been thinking on this for about 2 weeks, I never usually google this stuff, I just wanted peoples opinion. Teaching is great in my opinion, I love it, which is why I'm doing this haha.

1414240 2016-01-11 06:22:00 On my course for the 5 min practical I did ignition timing on my E93A which had a pin for the correct position at BTDC. So take out No1 sparkplug, turn over on crank handle with thumb in hole to feel compression stroke, continue turning till pin slides in, take distributor cap off, check rotor at no 1 on distributor, turn key on , rotate distributor a bit counterclockwise, rotate distributor clockwise till points open little spark, reverse pin, put back plug and dizzie cap. Doneburger even the weak stomached chicks could do it.
One killed a sheep and skinned it blood everywhere some chicks couldn't handle it and run inside.
The winner was a storeman on how to make a perfect cup of tea for the exercise and he wasn't gay. Some people were doing stuff too complex and running out of time so KISS applied.
