Why not? I have family overseas but it still is cheaper to ring them using Voipcheap and my Wifi on the cellphone than it was to ring on the landline.

1413978 2016-01-07 23:36:00 Teleco's don't seem to have payment discounts for landlines, unlike energy companies. Contact has around 15 to 22%? discounts for online payments. Instead you get over the top minutes, unneeded broadband (aka unlimited), nominated no.'s, unlimited text, etc. And their emails blow on about their light box and internet - broad band related info, but nothing for landline. No apparent monetary discounts, incentives, bonuses, or whatever. Nothing. They may have under the radar type flexibility for long term landline customers (as I experienced). So why not? Isolated/Distant communication started with landlines - perhaps could end there somehow but on a incentive scheme.

One way is restricted use (e.g. set monthly hours, days, charged per inbound/outbound connected call, etc)- and therefore lower monthly payments.

Ah but if you ask.......
I did that - twice. With Telecom, complained to accounts I didn't need their extra data etc etc.
(Before son moved back)

They had a look and gave me free other things for a while, or discount off for a while. First time 18 months, second time 1 year.

Yes they do offer concessions - but more reactive rather than proactive. If one complains or if they detect your communication needs are unfilled in a chat, they they do make concessions. Case by case it seems.
