| 1414909 | 2016-01-23 08:38:00 | You'll find the "chorus" van that turned up is actually a contractor and not chorus at all, just another link in the chain. You can tell by looking for dual branding, the actual company logo will be much smaller because that's part of the contract with chorus. They are acting as chorus representatives but don't actually work for them. Chorus do have staff and vehicles, but they don't come to anyone's house and do actual work. The guy who turned up to fix the fault just had a branded Chorus van and I have no idea who he worked for. The later tech who eventually turned up to organise the connection was a subbie, with a van with a non Chorus logo, and he identified himself right at the outset as being a subbie. |

| 1414910 | 2016-01-26 21:24:00 | Fast service... The higher speed was turned on yesterday, notified by email. Just did a speed test on the PC downstairs which is directly connected to the modem/router. Ping 12, Download 94.67, Upload 21.42. As someone earlier suggested they might be, things are different further away. The speeds on my tablet (Nexus 9) when upstairs, connected to the Netcomm Powerline system are consistently high on upload, but vary widely on different download speedtests. I am not sure what is going on there, but I doubt I am going to get anywhere near the 100 max. The best I have had on download is about 34, which is not much more than I got before the upgrade. However, I am amazed that Spark and Chorus have got their service to the point that the upgrade took about a week, and communication was great. |

The router and the Netcomm Powerline stuff can make a huge difference there. Better router would mean you get better coverage in general than the cheap Huawei they're now supplying, not to mention the Powerline adapters are probably also not quite geared up to be providing the higher speeds consistently. Something to keep in mind :) |

| 1414917 | 2016-02-03 03:39:00 | Just got the upgrade - after 2 weeks .. And now the phone line stops working. Same thing happened when switching over to fibre. Our one and one other we know, we stick a cable from one phone jack into the router and the rest of the phones in the house continue to work. Since we have gone to fibre from day 1 3 or so years ago the phone never stopped working other than the 1 or 2 power outages. The chorus guys organised that for us when they installed the white boxes. If the deal is great, go for it if you don't mind swapping later on when some other deals are better. Check also if you can leave after the 12 months. We got a pretty good deal that we get 100Mbps / 30 for the price of a 30/30 from other ISPs but we had to sign up for a 2 months with Snap at the time and now known as 2Degrees. But other than that not really good deals around. Voda / XT still offer 30/30 for their main plans. Faster if you pay more. My Republic seems to be offering first 6 months free or half price isn't it? We know of someone else who got 3 months free when they first started up in NZ, they had to pay the other 9 months at $99/mo if they didn't quit their trial period (the first 3 months). |
