| 1414972 | 2016-01-22 23:03:00 | I visited a friend on his yacht in a Brisbane marina. I noticed lots of yacht owners had strung up strings with CDs attached. They seem to work as they flash when they swing in the breeze. My mate only had plastic (but very realistic) snakes scattered across his desk and cabin top. I noticed there was no guano on his deck, so I presumed they worked too! Mynas may have some ancestral memory of snakes, given that they come from India originally! Just a thought... |

The owner was not impressed with the mess they were making. He got a large plastic / nylon garden owl ornament (about 25cm high) which he mounted on the roof over looking the tables. Problem solved. No more seagulls. :) | BobM (1138) | ||

| 1414978 | 2016-01-23 08:51:00 | 6925I have a very realistic cat statue and I put it outside to keep birds off the lawn so my real cat can't get them. It works too, no birds come down to feed. Real cat is p****d, but birds are safe. Maybe get one and put it on roof? LL |

Real cat is p****d, but birds are safe. Maybe get one and put it on roof? LL Birds around my house arnt overly bothered at all by cats, unless the cat actually moves towards them. The birds know the safe distance from a cat & know they can fly away. They also seem to know a easily seen stationary cat is even less dangerous Dont want any birds on the roof, then cover the whole roof with anti bird netting, or just accept that NZ & birds are part of the same package. :) |

| 1414980 | 2016-01-24 22:50:00 | I don't mind a few birds on the roof now and then at all, but this is a lot of birds and every day. You might be surprised how noisy it can get. When i look out the window during all this racket at the neighbours house and see no birds at all on their roof I realise it's not the norm. With the nylon line running along the ridgeline things are not too bad, and it's surprising to see how many of them there are now that most of them are at ground level where I can see them. |
