1413955 2016-01-04 03:34:00 Naked broadband isn't significantly cheaper. For that reason, no.

Cellphones - calls cost - for that reason, no.

Cellphones - cutting in and out - ok, not everywhere but quite often - for that reason, no.

No but cutting the phone out saved me the $19 I pay on my mobile

1413956 2016-01-04 05:07:00 Yeah, I did it several months ago. For just $65 per month I get unlimited texts and calls to both cell phone and landline numbers, both here in NZ and to Aus. Admittedly my data bandwidth is only 2.5 gigs per month, but with cautious usage (eg very little Youtube stuff) I've accumulated over 25 gigs of carryover data. And the phone gives me pretty decent Internet speeds. (although it helps spending half my time at my g/f's place)
Anybody else thinking of giving up landline?

I pay $ 100 a month for unlimited B/B and unlimited use of phone,
on top of that $38 for two cell phones.

I am thinking there would be a big saving with a cell phone plan with B/B with one of the 3.

I am sure with a communal input we should reach the answer.

1413957 2016-01-04 05:14:00 Forgot to mention... my $65 per month includes paying off my mobile phone itself to 2Degrees. So for me it's been a win win decision. Greg (193)
1413958 2016-01-04 07:16:00 I looked at naked but I thought I might get tired of disrobing each time I went online.

1413960 2016-01-04 07:23:00 Chorus still have a 'cash cow' but it is now the fibre network. They are still the national telecommunications wholesale provider.

Yes, but luckily the government did not give them the UFB all over the country.
I think there are 2 other UFB companies.
That should keep them semi honest.

1413961 2016-01-04 08:03:00 I ditched my landline many moths ago and have not missed it. I really only had it so people could ring me, and that's not worth the rental to me.

I was paying for a broadband & landline package, a prepay mobile, and a prepay T-stick. I swapped that for a broadband and mobile package for about the same price and ditched the 2 prepays. Only ends up saving me about $20 a month because I didn't really need the T-stick any more but I still think it's worth it. I get enough free minutes and texts to cover my cell phone usage so there are rarely many extra charges on the bill.

Actually looking at my bill I think I'm not getting any kind of package deal at all, $104.92 for unlimited naked VDSL + $39.99 for the cell phone, seems a bit much. I should pay more attention.

And now Chorus is in serious trouble over sub-standard fibre installs done by sub-contractors - their "cash cow" may not have enough milk.

Mmm....with son living here, ours has jumped to 70Gb, used to be around 10gb.

Even at 10Gb, your plan wouldn't do it for me.

1413964 2016-01-04 20:57:00 I've been on naked BB for around six years. My plan:

Naked BB. $79. With Slingshot. Unlimited data.
Eset Nod 32. $5
I talk with 1500 mins. $21. With $11 credit. Equals $10. (Calls to cell charged, not sure what rate is but quite cheap.)
Total $94.00

Never use more than the 1500 mins anyway.

Cell with V/Fone $19. With rollover mins and data. Mostly used for texts, and data as tethering to iPad when away from wifi. Hardly ever make calls on it apart from short ones to other cells.
