So what do you do with it that it needs to be so big? Gaming? Media? General usage?

I don't have a lot of CPU (AMD A10), but my system has 32gb RAM and 3 x 3TB 1 x 4TB and 2x 2TB drives. It's used as a virtual host to 3 constant machines, and up to 4 others I can start as needed. It's also a centralised backup server and plex media server primarily.

Probably.

It's not big anyway...big as in what? My case is bigger.....specs of CPU, GPU etc? Fairly standard for a decent gaming machine.

I dunno:

Seems pretty geared up for performance (m2 vs sata ssd), largish PSU. Couldn't comment on the GPU as I haven't followed their model numbers for years.

1419616 2016-04-26 23:02:00 Its a future proof machine in-case I decide I want to get into VR or 4k
I am unsure where this tech is going so I don't know yet, I have covered my bases.

1419618 2016-04-27 04:41:00 Nice. The CPU seems overkill but maybe that's the point :devil There is no future proofing though, only building the best PC available now for your budget. It might last for years and still be awesome or it might be obsolete inside 3 years (with those specs 2 is unlikely :))

That PSU would probably run 3 of those graphics cards. If I had the money I might build something that over the top as well, as it is I felt the 6700K I opted for was excessive. I have a 980, but if the 970 or 980Ti existed at the time I would probably have gone one way or the other as the 980 is a bit too close in performance to the 970 and in price to the Ti.

Personally if spending that kind of cash I would have gone for a larger SSD rather than that admittedly awesomely fast one. I have a 512GB M.2 850 evo as my C: drive and a 2.5" crucial 512GB SSD as my D: drive and all my games are installed on them.

I only use mechanical drives for media storage :)

1419619 2016-04-27 05:10:00 I thought about the larger SSD but bottom line is I don't need it, I don't install anything to C unless I have too.
And while it doesn't look like I had a budget, it would have blown the budget going for the larger one.

This machine will suit me for a couple of years, the next upgrade will be two of the Pascal Graphics Cards when they are at least a couple of generations in.
You are right about the PSU it is overkill but with Corsair realigning their models it was either that or a 800W one which was not enough overhead and I am not even sure it would have been enough.

I also had a 980 but I decided to sell it rather than add it to this build. Pascal is not close enough to make a difference to my decisions and I wanted a couple of Ti's to last a few years
