| 1414889 | 2016-01-21 03:29:00 | I am on a fibre 30 Unlimited plan with my ISP. I have just received an email offer to bump me up to full fibre speed at the same monthly price for 12 months. Sounds good, but the kicker is in the postscript: "Special price applies for 12 months. Thereafter, normal base plan pricing applies. All prices quoted are base plan only and do not take into account any calling plans, add-ons or promotional credits you may have." So I get 12 months at the full speed, and the ISP gets an extension of about three months to my contract, and gets me used to full speed ahead in that time. Thoughts: 1. I guess I can take the 12 months and enjoy it for what it is worth, and worry about the full price at the end of that period. Perhaps they will continue the lower price? 2. I can bail out of the contract after 12 months if they bump the price up to full whack - the extra cost is the reason we are on this fibre 30 plan. 3. Perhaps prices will drop for fibre within the twelve month period? Fibre has been going down. What are your thoughts on an offer like this? Would you take it up? Cheers. |

| 1414893 | 2016-01-21 23:45:00 | Thanks for the replies. When I took out this account, we had newly arrived in this town/street. The ISP I had been with (Vodafone) completely stuffed us around once too often so I bailed from them. I tried to go with Actrix, and they could only do ADSL in our street. I eventually went with Spark, because they could get us connected, do it expeditiously (there was already a fibre connection to the house, and a Chorus box installed), and their price for Unlimited 30 was competitive. I have my doubts about the free modem they supplied, but apart from that we are happy with the service they are providing. So I am likely to stay with them unless something changes in the next 12 months. I am tempted to go with their offer, and CliveM has accurately stated my thoughts on this. However, a good caution from pctek - surely though, they wouldn't be that devious would they? |

It's easier to live with something when you've never experienced a better option, 30M is fast but after 12 months on 100M it may not seem it. One small point about 100M and faster broadband, make sure all the equipment between the fibre and your PC is fast enough or you will not get the full speed. Probably need it all to be GigE to be sure. If you use Wi-Fi for your primary networking you may never see the difference from a slower plan. |

Also the consider if in reality you'll actually notice the new speed, its only ever as fast as the slowest point in the connection between you & wherever , the bottle neck will be somewhere else. I still cant get anywhere near to maxing out my ADSL speed. Fastest actual download speed Ive ever had is about 1Mbs (on a 10Mbs connection) . I guess if you have 2 or 3 people streaming HD movies, the the extra bandwidth could be a big help. |

| 1414896 | 2016-01-22 02:41:00 | Not mixing up bits and bytes are you 1101? Windows shows download speeds in Bytes, ISPs state them in bits. 1 MByte/s = 8 Mbits/s and would be pretty close to what you'd expect from a 10Mbit per second connection. I'm sure you are not, but it's a common enough mistake to prompt me to ask. A speedtest on my 30Mb connection (VDSL) gets 28-29 Mbps which is pretty close, waiting on my 100M fibre to see how it'll compare :0 |

| 1414897 | 2016-01-22 08:35:00 | I just moved to the 100mbps plan - same price, 12 month contract. I ordered it 7 days ago. After 2 phone calls they told me they are having 'problems' with fibre plans at the moment and I should have an 'update' by Tuesday next week. How hard can it be to change speed from 30mbps to 100mbps. Shame on Spark. | sahilcc7 (15483) | ||
