1414012 2016-01-04 09:33:00 Not really a surprise if their customer service in Lower Hutt is anything to go by.

this-could-be-the-end-of-the-road-for-dick-smith (www.stuff.co.nz)

Last two times we have gone into their stores, the service was non existent. Even when asking for help the people working there were not really interested in serving.

Once there was 3 staff talking by the counter, an older guy went up and asked about some difference in computers, (swmbo and I were within hearing range) they said we're busy

1414013 2016-01-04 18:27:00 I think they will die, they are just a more expensive version of the likes of Harvey Norman/Noel leeming and the like with less stock and even less knowledgeable staff. CliveM (6007)
1414014 2016-01-04 18:31:00 I went to their last "fire sale" in Dec, here in Taupo.

Brought a paper / cd shredder ($9 - was $69), Samsung wireless laser mono printer ($25 - was $155), a Swann door alarm, ($8 - was $19), and toner for the printer ($10 - was $85)

For $52. Saved myself over $250

We stopped going there ages ago.....

Won't be missed.

1414016 2016-01-04 20:47:00 Jaycar is more like what dick smith used to be than they are these days. By morphing into another chain store and attempting to compete with the big players they set themselves a difficult challenge they don't seem able to meet. There is no reason I can see to buy anything from DSE over any of the other players.

When it was a more specialised store I was in there every week, I don't think I visited them once in 2015. There are better stores for everything they sell.

1414018 2016-01-04 21:54:00 Pointless going into Paraparam shop, don't know the meaning of the word service.

Jaycar not much better round here.

1414019 2016-01-04 23:37:00 Service is relative, I like to look around the store without being bothered and go to the counter when I'm ready or if I have a question. Some consider that bad service but myself that's what I want.
When I'm in a shop and a sales person comes up to me and asks me if I need any help, I'm more often than not annoyed at the intrusion.

Totally agree, I use to read their massive catalogue a lot. They were the leaders, and I think another store (Reid electronics close 2nd?). Even Kmart are selling basic electronic Guess DSE won't be missed...
