597583 2007-10-03 09:26:00 I tried to see how hot my Intel Pentium D 2.7GHz was running so I installed this; www.intel.com (Intel active monitor) and my PC, once the install began it shut off completely and now doesn't start. I have a Dell E520 and all it does is turn on the fans, and the DVD drive opens/closes. I really hope that my processor isn't destroyed. Eklypse77 (12650)
597584 2007-10-03 09:41:00 sounds nasty. does it try to post? or give error beeps? or just do nothing?

If its what i think it is, Motherboard might have fried. my bros Pc done something similar. was playing flat out 2. and it shut down randomly. and gave error beeps for a while, now does nothing at all.

I hope ya CPU aint dead also. if you are able to see if you can borrow a PC to test the CPU in. also a good idea to test all your parts. RAM and vid card as well. as these can be damaged if your mother board has gone.

597585 2007-10-03 09:42:00 So it won't even post to the bios screen? beeswax34 (63)
597586 2007-10-03 09:44:00 No beeps. Just a yellow signal light from the Case and a small yellow light on the MoBo that's always meant to be on. Maybe I should reseat CPU? Eklypse77 (12650)
597587 2007-10-03 09:45:00 No video activity (screen has yellow light indicating no intput) Eklypse77 (12650)
597588 2007-10-03 09:46:00 if its not posting or giving error beeps then its probably fried something. take the CPU out and turn it on. if it yells at ya for no CPU then mobo may be ok.

do this for the ram and vid card also. if there is nothing from the motherboard by itself ya will need a new one.

597589 2007-10-03 10:03:00 took out the ram and no beeps. Eklypse77 (12650)
597590 2007-10-03 10:06:00 if its not posting or giving error beeps then its probably fried something. take the CPU out and turn it on. if it yells at ya for no CPU then mobo may be ok.

Don't do this. There is no "no CPU" beep. The CPU is what carries out the power on self test (POST) in the first place! It can't decide to beep without a CPU.

Your first step should be clearing the CMOS. There is a jumper on your motherboard for this. Do you have the manual for it? If so, it will give clear instructions.

Otherwise, find the jumper for "Clear CMOS" and change its position to the pins it isn't at now, wait 30 seconds and change it back. Try taking out the battery and leaving it overnight if that doesn't work.

597591 2007-10-03 10:07:00 hmm well if it is not complaining that there is no RAM in it then the motherboard is probably dead. would be a good idea to check the ram and other hardware in another PC to see what other parts you may need to purchase to get it working again.

hmm i learn something new everyday :D thanks. although it should beep with no ram in it. and the CPU still there.

597592 2007-10-03 10:12:00 Jumper?

[edit] i found it.. the little yellow tab thing.

OK, cleared the CMOS.. But do you really think its a motherboard problem? I mean, all the fans + HDD + dvd drive make noise but nothing happens whatsoever.
