597458 2007-10-03 06:02:00 Finally got kubuntu into that puter..and now I cannot find out how to add Firefox...it's seems to see the DSL ok, but how can I tell if it's online?

Do I use Konqueror and type in Firefox and hit enter?

This makes little sense...last time I did this, Firefox was already installed...

Got a pretty desktop though and a screen saver is all set up OK...

597459 2007-10-03 06:06:00 Firefox is the default browser of Gnome (used by Ubuntu). Konqueror is the default browser of KDE.
You will probably have to install it. Though Kubuntu may have it already installed. If so, go to konsole and type 'firefox'

all I get is a bunch of folders...they look like they exist on the hdd at this point...but which one to use?

/usr/lib/firefox
/usr/share
usr/lib/firefox
var/lib/mozilla-firefox
/etc/alternatives/firefox-homepage
/etc/alternatives/firefox-homepage-locales

there are more..but I'm gonna miss the edit buzzer here

597461 2007-10-03 06:10:00 I was sure FFox came as part of the install. Just look in your 'internet' menu and it should be there along with konquerer. If not...

I can't remember what application manager k/ubuntu comes with but it might be YAST?

If so open the app manager and type in firefox in the search box and it should bring up a list of firefox bits available from the repository and also already on your comp. Find the firefox proggie, tick the box and follow instructions to download/install.

IF not... yell at Jen for help :)

597462 2007-10-03 06:10:00 Go to the menu / add /remove programs, type your pw in, type firefox. It SHOULD come up.

Select it click on apply changes. It'll install.

Wait for it to finish, then use it.

Nope it doesnt get installed by default. Well it wasnt installed when I installed Kubuntu today.

597463 2007-10-03 06:13:00 You do have apt in kubuntu, don't you?
If so, from a console just type (as root) apt-get install mozilla-firefox

That works for me in Debian.
Good luck.

597465 2007-10-03 06:15:00 Ok, try typing 'mozilla-firefox' in konsole
Though it shouldn't make a difference

If that doesn't work, you may have to 'su apt-get install mozilla-firefox' in konsole
