597319 2007-10-03 00:18:00 On any game I play no matter what resolution whether it be 1280x1024 or 640x480 or whether the settings are set to low with no AA/AF or high with full AA/AF my fps is ALWAYS the same.

Take CSS as an example.
I have a 6600gt. My friend has the same card but gets around 70fps in a firefight in CSS. I get 15. We both use exactly the same settings and resolution. I wouldn't give a damn if he got more fps don't care as long as it doesn't lag. But it does. Horribly. On same maps in firefights it gets down to 7fps. On a 6600gt. WTF
Why is this?

Here are my other parts:
Intel Celeron D 346 3.06ghz
ASUS P5VDC-MX mobo
2GB Kingston DDR2 667
Running XP pro
17" CRT screen

Can someone help me fix this? Thanks in advance for any help I get :)

597322 2007-10-03 00:38:00 I take it you have installed the correct drivers etc for the card.

What else is your computer running? As in proccess > task manager.

Does your computer run slowly for anything else, or just while gaming?

597323 2007-10-03 00:53:00 Yeah tried several versions of nVidia drivers with no luck.

No processes are hogging memory or CPU.
Just the usual anti-virus + spyware, firewall, objectdock, ASUS PC Probe (monitors temps etc). All the rest use next to no memory at all and no CPU at all 'cos there just drivers etc. And all the others are system processes.

But regardless of all that. I shut down ALL non essential processes and tried it before. Same thing happens.

And no. It's fine for everything but gaming. I'm extracting a rather large file with winrar which is using 99% CPU and it's not lagging...Just taking a veryyyy long time with this celeron

597324 2007-10-03 01:09:00 Do a DirectX diagnostic. In the run box, type "dxdiag" (without the quotations) and see if all the tests pass OK. Have you updated your sound drivers too? wratterus (105)
597325 2007-10-03 01:16:00 Check your chipset/motherboard drivers, not just your video card drivers

AGP or PCI-E Slot drivers must be installed to actually get AGP or PCI-E acceleration, without them it'll all just run at PCI speeds (which are damn slow for video cards)

If you run DXDiag and in the video section it says that AGP texture acceleration is not enabled, then drivers are most likely not installed and also most likely the cause of your problem

EDIT: If you do need to get chipset drivers, download and install these from here: www.viaarena.com

597326 2007-10-03 01:16:00 dxdiag was perfect no problems.

I use that ASUS auto update thing so I have the latest drivers for my motherboard, sound, IDE/SATA the whole 9 yards.

AGP texture acceleration is enabled.

What could it be? ahhhhhhhhhh
