597186 2007-10-02 07:40:00 Hi, Dumb question, I have just purchased a Striker Extreme motherboard but it does not have a connector for my lcd monitor which is dvi...is there an adapter that i need?? anybody help???? clevertrev (12879)
597187 2007-10-02 07:48:00 guesing that you are using onboard video. not sure if you can get D-sub to DVI. i know ya can get DVI to D-sub.

only other option would be to get a graphics card with a DVI out on it. which most if not all do now anyway.

see if DSE have a D-Sub to DVI adapter. if not get a cheap graphics card.

597188 2007-10-02 07:48:00 Yes there is a connector you need. (assuming you currently have analog video out)
Just a simple DVI to Analog connector will do the job.
Should cost about $5 from somewhere like Dick Smith.

Edit: Cho and I post at the same time, this is happening more and more these days!

597189 2007-10-02 07:53:00 Thanks so much, There's no D sub connector on the I/O panel either so it looks like I'll be purchasing my new graphics card sooner than I thought!!! clevertrev (12879)
597190 2007-10-02 07:57:00 that makes things a little easier. although more expensive hehe. $100 shall cover a decent non gaming card. unless ya plan on gaming, then $200 will get an avg one :D

Granted i have not looked at any hardware while im poor, so those are estimates

597191 2007-10-02 19:18:00 The Striker doesn't have onboard video, so yes, you'll need to get a PCI Express graphics card (or 2 since it has SLI). autechre (266)

What sort of budget are you looking at, and what do you intend to do on your computer?
Having 1 really nice gfx card is better than having 2 more average cards in SLI.
Mind you.. having 2 really nice cards in SLI would be nice too! :p :p

597193 2007-10-03 01:07:00 Thanks for all the positive response guys...much appreciated. I'm probably looking at spending a bit on a decent card like an 8800GTS or similar. I'm a novice here...just having a go at building my first system and not to concerned about costs...at the moment!!! clevertrev (12879)
597194 2007-10-03 01:13:00 The 8800GTS is a very good card, get the Asus 640MB (www.pbtech.co.nz) one. ;) You won't be dissapointed. wratterus (105)
597195 2007-10-03 01:21:00 Thanks for the advice...I'll check it out...any particular brand better than another? clevertrev (12879)
