597007 2007-10-02 04:19:00 So i'm doing alot of riding on and offroad lately, and want to get some sort of video of it. specifically using a bullet cam like this one on trademe (www.trademe.co.nz)

i need a cheap, durable camera with an AV line IN, it would seem, but i can't seem to find any:annoyed: (bullet cam uses an RCA lead, i think)

it needs to be reasonably cheap, as i don't want to ruin a $1200 camera because i hit a bump too hard/fall on it as will probably happen on the dirt bike. I was thinking something less than the student amount of $300...

any ideas? any other viable solutions?

(I believe Metla has a helmet camera - any suggestions?)

597008 2007-10-02 04:22:00 $300 would but you in the mid to bottom of digital cameras than can take average video footage. My wife has a Casio 4MegaPixel which was about $600 when she bought it a couple of years ago. I have taken video footage with it when skiing but it doesn't compare to a proper DV cam - although it is smaller and more portable.

Only other possibly better solution would be to get a non riding friend to film you and then edit the tracks into one video clip which would give you much better quality of the end product.

a non riding friend set up with a camera for every corner on a 200km road ride? i doubt it very much.

i want to get the helmet cam to "capture the riding experience" as such, (and possibly as evidence next time someone nearly knocks me off my bike)

i know $300 is the very bottom range, but i don't want nor can afford to take a $600 camera when my picture is entirely restricted by the low quality helmet cam, and then find it broke after only 5 minutes

and did you wife's camera have the required inputs? if so, what's the model name?

Plod:

not a bad idea -EDIT, nothing suitable as yet, but it's a shame my old camera with a stuffed focus (dirt bike incident) doesn't have any AV in

canon dv cameras had a bad batch off ccd's in them, Out of four people I know that own them(about2-3years old), mine is still the only that hasn't failed.
Check out your local camera store or repair shop

597012 2007-10-02 08:28:00 we got a Sony DV handycam. really nice, although uses mini DVD's 2GB per side. and at max rez can record about 30mins on each side. dont know about lowest rez and whats the point. also takes nice pics at 1128x7?? which is the high rez, low rez is ???x480 cant remember.

The model up from that would be ideal for what you want. it uses a HDD build into it. although not sure if it has RCA inputs on it. and well as ya said ya dont wanna pay $1200 for one just incase ya break it.

wear a backpack and put loads of padding around it or in a platic lunchbox :D

597013 2007-10-02 08:46:00 now this looks better! (www.trademe.co.nz) motorbyclist (188)
597014 2007-10-02 08:49:00 oh nice. might have to invest in one. for those awesome helmet cam shots. although being 640x480, would look a lot diff than the handycam. and splicing a video in adobe would look strange. Cho (12330)
597015 2007-10-02 08:50:00 I was gonna suggest getting a 1080p camera. So you can closely examine your speedo while doing 150 down the motorway eh?

Heheh, honestly, if you do get a nice camera, share some footage, I might make an EXTREME movie or something...
