| 598473 | 2007-10-06 01:55:00 | Am giving PCLinuxOS a whirl on the laptop. I have installed it to give it a decent run. Having a problem with wifi. According to one site I visited, the driver for my Broadcom device has been added to the kernel as of 2.6.17-rc2. PCLOS has 2.6.18. Yet my broadcom refused to run [How does one recompile a kernel in this OS so I can check that the driver is actually part of the kernel?] Therefore, I have tried using ndiswrapper to start it. I have ndiswrapper installed, then I installed the windows driver (as outlined at the ndiswrapper.sourceforge site); then modprobed ndiswrapper. So it now pings itself, localhost, and eth0. But thats it. It won't ping the router (even though I turned WEP etc off), nor will it ping any other computer in the network. Even tried this: iwconfig wlan0 essid PCLOS key wep-key-from-router-settings .. and then ifup wlan0 |
