| 598151 | 2007-10-05 05:53:00 | Hi all, Just after some advice. I bought a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop in America about two years ago, now I need a new battery but it isnt available on the Dell NZ website. Can anyone recommend an after market battery website where I can buy a good battery from to suit? The one I have now (that only does about 3 minutes now - down from near on two hours) is a 53WH D5318. I'm pretty sure I wont be able to order from Dell in the USA since I couldnt even use my NZ Visa card to buy the laptop in the first place. I have come across a website that 'refills' this particular battery (US customers only though). Is this available in NZ? I have experience with Lithium polymer batterys in aero models so may be able to do this job myself if I can source three suitable cells and open the D5318 package. Anyone done this before? Thanks for any suggestions, -John. |

Certainly even in electric aero modeling many stories are heard regarding exploding or balloning lipo cells. I have heard though that the D5318 has ceased production so even if I could buy an authentic battery it would be less than full capacity due to ageing... Not sure what to do here... |

| 598158 | 2007-10-12 09:12:00 | Hi again, Just received my new battery from Laptopbattery.co.nz today in the mail - very fast delivery. Problem is that it doesnt appear to work... When I installed it and plugged in the mains power to my Inspiron 6000 the battery light blinks green twice about 5 seconds apart, then flashs orange furiously. It would seem that my laptop doesnt want to charge the new battery? The old battery was a Dell D5318 rated at 53WH (I presume this is the same as 5300mAh? or perhaps it means approximately 4800mAh (W= A*V)? The new battery (stated as a replacement for D5318) is a 7800mAh battery, and belly-well expensive too! Anyway, I am wondering whether the problem may be my power supply not able to supply enough current to charge it? Power supply is a Dell rated at 3.34A at 19.5V. Or, do you think that the battery is DOA? There was no light on the built in battery meter at all when I first unpacked it. Normally I thought lithium batterys came with charge out of the factory - at least enough to light up the meter a bit. manufacturing date is May 2007. |
