599430 2007-10-08 10:18:00 The other day I was formatting a Win2K puter and all was going well until half way through the setup installation when I accidentally switched off the power. The setup wasn't complete so I thought I would just start again and reformat, etc. Except now the HDD won't FDISK or FORMAT. So I bought another HDD and that isn't formatting either. Ooops?

The computer recognises the HDD but just stays at 0% when using FDISK or FORMAT. Any ideas?

599433 2007-10-08 19:24:00 Try the Seatools bootable CD on the Seagate drive, it can be found here:

www.seagate.com

(Use the DOS version as it creates a bootable floppy or CD)

599435 2007-10-08 19:26:00 I used Seatools for the Seagate drive. That was the original HDD that I tried installing WIN2K on. This Samsung HDD is the new one I bought so I thought I would have a better chance at getting this one to work. Eeeek!!!

So will Seatools work for the Samsung drive as well?

599436 2007-10-08 19:34:00 So will Seatools work for the Samsung drive as well?

It might. Would be worth a shot. Some old versions allowed some tests to be performed against non Seagate drives.

Not sure about Samsung.

Personally I would not spend too much time trying to bash drives of that capacity into shape if there is no data to recover. Drive prices have come down considerably now, it is not hard to get something under $100 with considerably more capacity.

599438 2007-10-08 19:36:00 But I just bought the Samsung. Have I bought a dud drive? :-( Raewyn (946)

Hard to tell if it was a dud to start with or after the power mishap.
