599258 2007-10-08 08:29:00 Thanks for all your feedback I still haven't heard the clicking noise tonight. I ran Seatools DOS and received an error on the SHORT Test so ran the LONG Test which took a couple of hours. It found 1 bad sector which it apparently repaired, however, when I tried to run the SHORT Test again it failed. Chkdsk found no errors when I checked "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors".
Any ideas on where I should go from here? Try for warranty?

599259 2007-10-08 08:39:00 You don't want to be messing with your HDD of all things. Back up as soon as possible if you haven;t done so and send it back pronto under warranty. beeswax34 (63)
599260 2007-10-08 19:31:00 If you get a program like Astra32/speedfan etc it'll show you a dump of all the smart attributes. if you look at these you can probably figure out why it fails the DST, but only if you're interested.

Backup asap before you do anything else just in case (you'll have to anyway, seagate won't do it for you if you do send your drive back)

599262 2007-10-08 21:14:00 oh man, i had this same issue 3 and a half years ago, only when it clicked it was due to the vibration or jolt from force, I.E slamming my fist on the desk when I'm angry at some child killing me in counterstrike lol.... Then it would click.. whir down... and speed back up...

Regardless of the cause or even if you can attempt a "Fix" it's still a sham drive... Replace it man best thing to do

599264 2007-10-08 21:26:00 Hey when you're 16, angry at the world, a virgin, and playing against hackers, that seems the most logical approach at the time lol

to keep on topic, Raptor Harddrives are great for storage if that's what the drive that's going out is... they're fast accessing but often kind of small...
