A friend had connection problems with his new ADSL connection and router .

As part of the checking I took round my router and laptop to troubleshoot the connection itself . Hey, we've both got ADSL lines, even if our ISPs are different so mine should work there . Right? Wrong!

Slingshot told me that ADSL accounts are tied to the telephone number . Is this correct?

Incidentally, the problem turned out to be two-fold . Username and also a conflict with network cards .

599152 2007-10-08 01:48:00 If your friend has his phone line provided by a specific ISP then you will not be able to log in with another providers user/password. eg a Ihug username password wont work if your friend has phone by Orcon. kevyalex (7334)
599153 2007-10-08 01:57:00 With my recent fun testing my ADSL, I borrowed a router off a friend, it still had a business paradise ADSL connection still in the config, and it actually connected (albiet a little slower than my own connection with the same hardware) and I was able to surf the net.

I didn't think it should work either, but there you go....

599154 2007-10-08 02:36:00 My account is with Ihug, his with Slingshot .
It had just never occured to me that an ADSL line is fixed to the ISP .

It turned out the problem was username .

Slingshot don't use "username" OR "username@slingshot . co . nz" BUT "username@jetbusters . co . nz" . They had already talked him through the configuration and missed picking this one up .

And I've had a further text to say the D-link wireless dongle is still intermittent . As he, computer novice, installed it there could be problems . I'll probably end up reinstalling it .
