600378 2007-10-10 21:15:00 Hi all. This is my first post so sorry if this topic is being discussed at length elsewhere. Perhaps some kind person might redirect me if there's a large thread about the subject of Xtra and their new Yahoo arrangement.

I'm a 20-year pc tech who's finally had it up to here with Xtra, so I'm curious to know what members are saying about alternative ISPs.

Cheers

600379 2007-10-10 21:38:00 Most of us have switched to Xnet  bob_doe_nz (92)
600380 2007-10-10 21:47:00 Xnet seems to get a very good thumbs up from a lot of the members on this forum. I was with KOL, but changed to Orcon (bigger data cap). I found both of those ISPs to be really good for speeds, and great customer support. You can call, and 5 mins later your talking to a kiwi. Much much better that xtra. I think Telstra is quite good too, although I havn't had much first hand experience with them. wratterus (105)

600382 2007-10-10 21:50:00 I would change if I could......I need xtra so I can authenticate to Telecom RADIUS servers for work access to our PON!.......
When we migrate to One Office however...........

600383 2007-10-10 21:57:00 I changed to ICONZ but beware with Xtra that they will charge you for the full month from when you change. On my last bill from Telecom, there was a full months charge for Xtra even though I switched 7 days into the month. My advice is to change as late in the billing month as you can because you will get boned. When I rang xtra for a credit they put me on to some monkey in Manila who kept quoting the T&C so I told him what I really thought of NZ companies exporting jobs, hung up before he could reply and then rang Telecom and asked if they still wanted my business. They arranged a credit to keep my business. It isn't big bucks - just the principle. Xtra call centre staff = monkeys. Change but leave it till later in your billing cycle. andrew93 (249)
600384 2007-10-11 00:13:00 ... Xtra call centre staff = monkeys.

Fully agree with you. Called Xtra's helpdesk the other day and after about 20 min., someone from India with a very strong Indian accent attended to me , but I found it extreamely difficult to understand him. I then requested to speak to someone local (NZ) but was told that he can't do it; and suggested me to hang up and phone again!

Telecom has been spending toooooo muuuuch money on their top Executives who are doing next to nothing and far, far tooo little on those ordinary staff and equipment.

600385 2007-10-11 01:44:00 Yeah I switched from Xtra to KOL (Cheaper for dialup), as I found Xtra a bit cumbersome for help calls. But I retained my Xtra email account, because they may bring in enhancements or improvements in the future... kahawai chaser (3545)
