599743 2007-10-10 00:22:00 Hello people,

My aging father thinks a sky installation is affecting his dial-up service.

I assume this is probably not right but said I will make enquiries for him and you guys are as expert as anyone I could talk to.

So can anyone confirm/deny this is possible...

Cheers
JE

what's happening to make him think 'something' is affecting his dialup in any way at all ?....is it disconnecting or wht ? or just slower or what ?.......you DONT have to have the telephone connection hooked up on the sky box anyway unless you use pay per view channels.........just unplug that and if the problem still exists then it's NOT sky......

599745 2007-10-10 01:09:00 fairly common with some of the older decodes. not sure about the newer ones. simply unplugging should tell if its the problem. however it still could be a wiring problem as sky techs are dodgy buggers for doing phone connections. tweak'e (69)
599746 2007-10-10 03:34:00 It could only affect it if he wanted to take a call and book a movie at the same time.
He can unplug it.
Or maybe its a jackpoint problem, rather than whats plugged into it?

599747 2007-10-10 04:17:00 the problem with the decoder is it sits open on the phone line all the time, compared to most modems which are closed then open when they are going to be used. for some reason this really screws up some dail up modems. tweak'e (69)
599748 2007-10-10 05:36:00 My sky used to slow down my internet dial up something shocking, so I just unplugged sky from the jack point, and everything was fine. supergran (108)
599749 2007-10-10 06:13:00 Out of curiousity why does Sky need the phoneline connection ? Reading the last couple of posts I gather I can disconnect it with no side effects. Clod (7853)
599750 2007-10-10 06:14:00 If you want to pay per view movies etc or any offers then have on screen. beeswax34 (63)
