600389 2007-10-11 04:24:00 ... But I retained my Xtra email account, because they may bring in enhancements or improvements in the future...

I'm considering to follow your decision. BTW, how much do you have to pay Telecom in order to keep your email account?

They charge $5 per month for an @xtra.co.nz email account and 2 hours of dial up. Actually I think you now get more xtra email acounts with the new bubble system for that $5. You do also get the free pro flicker account which is worth a bit of money.

600391 2007-10-11 07:46:00 I switched from Xtra to Orcon. Xtra wanted all sorts of charges for me to pay because I was breaking the contract. I told them that they had broken the contract, They were the ones who would not talk to me for a week, they were the ones that had allowed my e-mail box to fill with rubbish ( penis enlargement, Viagra etc) but I said if you insist I pay, lets go to the small claims court and let a referee sort out who is right. They wiped all charges! Not a good company. Life is now GOOD! PS: My speed went from 1,650 with Xtra to 4,000 with Orcon royaloaks (8205)
600392 2007-10-11 10:22:00 Thanks folks, very interesting comments. XNet certainly looks attractive; the 10gb plan (Fullspeed down, 128K up) is 44.38, with monthly credit for unused data.

So add $5 for Xtra email and it's around $10 cheaper than the same plan with Xtra.

And with the bonus of a kiwi helpdesk and no more Yahoo b******t (I'd rather have leprosy than any involvement with Yahoo), it's irresistible :p

600393 2007-12-27 04:22:00 Update: Finally did it. Xtra gets dumped just as soon as XNet can schedule the changeover (quaintly entitled the 'churn'), ie, in 3 or so business days.

Apart from the reduced cost (My plan will be highspeed DOWN, 128K UP, with a base price of 33.95 and $1\GB after that; around $12-$14 less than I pay now), XNet is taking care of the Xtra-chop\transfer, and the cost of maintaining my seven or so Xtra email addies (1 main, 5 aliases and another mailbox) shouldn't exceed $3 -$4.

Whoooee! - Christmas CAN be full of good cheer :-)

I think you will be pleased. I have been with them for a few months after being with Slingshot for over 5 years on dialup and later braodband, and have been very happy. I was very dissatisfied with Slingshots quality of broadband, and have not had the same outages or slowness of slingshot. The best ISPs are those that you don't even know are there, as you don't have any problems to contact them with.
