601115 2007-10-13 12:38:00 Trying to reinstall W2K using the guidelines from PCWorld

All works fine until I get to the part of having to copy files from the Administrator etc. It tells me that there is a Administrator folder (which is true) and also a Administrator.computername folder. This one is not there. I have some other ones like all users - all users.winnt - default user - default user.winnt and temp
The important one I am missing is the administrator.computername
Is there someone that can help me with this?

Thanks SP

601116 2007-10-13 17:30:00 Where are your backups...you DID back up your valuable files...right?

Are you trying to do this in a new partition or a clean install with archives?

A little more info please.....and was this 2000 originally an upgrade or a clean full install..it makes a LOT of difference.

2000 (I think all are PRO-versions) are really nasty about upgrades from an older system and a fresh, clean full install.

Thanks SPI have just checked this out on a Windows 2000 machine I have here. No folder called Administrator.insert-computer-name-here

What are you wanting to do? Move files from an old install to a new one?

601118 2007-10-13 20:16:00 You arent making the mistake of taking the instruction literally, are you? When it says administrator.computername, its asking for you to substitute the underlined with your computers name (usually found in control panel>system>computer name tab in XP, dunno about W2k) that identifies it on a network. Sorry, if you've realised that already:p feersumendjinn (64)
