600941 2007-10-12 19:21:00 Have an MSI KT6 Delta lying round with 1400+ in it. I notice today that that motherboard supports DDR400 (which is faster than what my current computer supports). Also among the specs, the KT6 will run with bus speeds of 200Mhz.
I did a quick google and note that in theory I should be able to throw an AMD XP up to 3100+ on it. Is this correct?
Also, if I can get an AMD 3000+ (for example) will it out-perform my current computer (333 FSB, P4 2.66 Northwood, P4M266 mobo) noticeably? Do AMD of that era run noticeably cooler or hotter than Intel?
I have DDR400 RAM currently

There's 4 of them.

There's 4 of them. They all appear to be the same spec re: bus speeds/bios etc. Its appears that only the features (Gigabit LAN for example) are the only things that change. Anyway, from your link, it appears that the mobo I have will support up to a 3200+.

Will I notice a speed difference if I change from my current computer to a 3000+ or 3200+ based system?

600944 2007-10-12 21:32:00 Realistically it wouldn't be that much faster Myth, probably offer a small advantage in benchmarks but offer little benefit in real life. The only real reason to change may be that the motherboard offer more features than your existing system. You'd also probably struggle to find a 3000+ or 3200+ for a fair price, upgraded to a budget AM2 system wouldn't cost much more but would offer superior performance. Pete O'Neil (6584)
