2007-10-12 00:19:00 | I am running office 2007 on a Hewlett-Packard odd in NC 6320 with XP home service pack two as the operating system. My system is fully up-to-date. Ever since I installed Office 2007 on this machine I have had problems with Outlook. On a completely random basis it will freeze and lock-up the computer so that I had to hard boot the machine. I phoned the Microsoft help line and they have advised me that the problem is a conflict with ZoneAlarm. Based on their advice, I have disabled ZoneAlarm and am now running on the Windows firewall (hey it's better than nothing). I have looked on the Microsoft Web site and it appears that there was a problem with Outlook 2007 where the data file got very large (in excess of four Meg) mine is not even close to that, but I applied the patch anyway. It didn't help. Has anybody else out there have this problem? And more importantly, as anyone managed to find a fix?

2007-10-12 00:40:00 | Is it the latest version of Zonealarm?? I take it, you use ZA's email scanner when you check email?? I would disable ZA's email scanner, and use something like AVG Free, or Avast Home, both are free. Or if you use ZA's antispam option (if its got it disable it), and get Poptray. Which is free.

2007-10-12 00:49:00 | Yup, I would suggest you get Avast and simply disable the on-demand mail scanner to prevent any conflicts. I'm running all the scanners with Outlook 2007 and have had no conflicts yet. | beeswax34 (63) | |

Here are some alternative views www.itwriting.com Errrrrrrrr - disable the AV :groan: don't think so. I do know that item #3 Turn off indexing. Tools - Options - Search options - uncheck all folders. It’s a shame to do this as the indexed search is useful. Can slow down and can cause problems. Funny how Item #2 wants you to use Vista  What Antivirus do you have ? |

2007-10-12 09:09:00 | What about disabling outlook - its not the only e-mail program available - I use Eudora, and have never had problems. | KenESmith (6287) | |
2007-10-12 09:36:00 | He's got ZA. See the 1st post. Yep saw that ( Thanks  ) - I saw Zonealarm may not be zonealarm Pro which comes with the firewall & AV. Thats why I asked regarding the AV - just to clear up anything. I have Zonealarm Free version ( firewall only), Office 2007 , XP Pro, and Nod32 AV - no worries. ( note: helps when you have several workshop PC's that you can change configurations on) Also half the "warm fuzzy" features turned off in Office, indexing / search was the first to go. I had forgotten about that since I have had it since its beta days.

2007-10-12 15:54:00 | Have you tried repairing Outlook? I was having some issues with office 2007 word. Simply repairing it from CD worked a treat. | sam m (517) | |
