600831 2007-10-12 02:51:00 Dell 750XP, 2 opticals, 1 floppy, Pen3, 512mb RAM . . etc .

Thought I'd lost a 40g hdd, but I cannot get back with a new hdd either .

Symptoms:

Vid= no output, the yellow blinker just keeps blinking yellow .
Post beeps = yes, one
5v rail = OK @ 4 . 87v
12v rail + OK at 11 . 98v
drives blink
CMOS OK . . . LED on MOBO lighted
NIC = still connected and lights up the router port led too .
CPU fan running .
PSU fan running
Aux fan running (for hdds)

I have swapped EID cables several times .
I have swapped HDDS until I've used all that I have in stock . . even a new 40g
Checked ALL cables, connex,
Dumped the BIOS back to whatever default is . . can't tell . . . no picture on the CRT .

I got the BSOD for "Found hardware problems, shut your system down . . call you admin or tech wizard . . . . " or something like that . . . saw this three (3) times .

Got it to boot once with a changed HDD . . but even with that same HDD . . nothing again . At XP, the boot-up failed .

It won't run "Live" anything . . . it sees the drive with the CD in it (it blinks rapidly a bit, then goes off and then on for a few moments, then goes off .

Cannot "see" XP or 98SE install discs or any of the Linux cd's I have .

Sounds like a MOBO . . but it is posting!

Sounds like low voltage . . but it isn't

Sounds like a bad HDD . . but I swapped them until my fingers bled .

Has onboard vid . . think it's the problem?

600832 2007-10-12 03:01:00 I would kill everything, except one cd/dvd, the hdd, and ram .

And the video, since u need video for the monitor

Disconnect the floppy, and one of the cd's .

What about safe mode? Does it crash?

OK serious note now - does it go nuts with beeps if you remove the RAM - indicating no RAM ?

600834 2007-10-12 03:05:00 try another PSU . 12v rail and 5v rail don't always mean much .

have you pulled all the cards and drives out?

600839 2007-10-12 05:21:00 Sorry Mate cant resist ITS A DELL :p

Yeah, only a Dell would do a single 'no error' beep when the video card wasn't seated properly.

600840 2007-10-12 06:32:00 I got it all up and running again...but it won't support two hdds...Oh well...at least I got XP back..and now on to the original quest..to dual boot PCLOS...

The vid card is a real snot because even when I reseated it, it lost a contact all over again...about three times after I found that out.

But this MOBO seems to <memory? failing? part-timer's disease?> have a hard time when I play with the RAM sticks...must be a very minor crack in the MOBO or a bad joint somewhere...or whatever!

I seem to remember that anyway...but now..on to PCLOS!
