601751 2007-10-15 08:06:00 Hey folks, its so refreshing to come across an active NZ forum community for stuff like this, I must say I am relieved.

More to the point, I am currently still on the Go Large plan even though it curdles the very marrow in my bones, thus I've made it my mission this week to give telecom a giant kick in the nuts...

So I'm going to vote with my dollar and go to either Orcon or Xnet. That is unless someone changes my mind of course.

Would anyone like to share comments with me regarding either of these two ISPs? I've done quite a bit of trolling about the forums tonight attempting to answer myself, but among various fanboys it can be hard to see truth in anything really.

By the way does anyone happen to have any insight on how to prevent Go Large from eating my steam application?

601752 2007-10-15 08:13:00 Here's some comments about Xnet (pressf1.co.nz)

Quite a few people on this forum are on Xnet at the mo.

And are VERY happy (including myself), with the no connection fee, no churn fee, no contract, no Home phone fee, and no termination fee Xnet have. And you can pick a cap, (or select how many GB's you want), and you only pay for what you use.

601753 2007-10-15 08:15:00 Either one - Xnet or Orcon. You will be happy. ;) wratterus (105)
601754 2007-10-15 08:21:00 Orcon user and very happy with no email problems and only $2 per GB for excess data usage. winmacguy (3367)
601755 2007-10-15 09:09:00 Had a look at Orcon, but Xnet have a better system for data cap control, and you can download a couple of excellent little tools to check on usage, speed and ping. You pay only for what you use. I have full speed up and down and 8 gigs data, as we have a serious online gamer here. lakewoodlady (103)
601756 2007-10-15 09:22:00 hmm xnet look all good. like the custom data usage. just gonna steal ya thread a little :D

i see that they do VoIP. or VoBB as they calling it. am i correct in assuming that they are offering nDSL or will the standard POTS still be required for this. as looking for an ISP that does nDSL or will in the near future.

601758 2007-10-15 17:17:00 Most here in this forum will point you towards Xnet. They seem pretty happy with it. Me, I'm happy with Orcon. For the amount of usage I wanted (>10GB per month), Orcon was cheaper Myth (110)
601759 2007-10-15 17:57:00 By the way does anyone happen to have any insight on how to prevent Go Large from eating my steam application? You sure it's Go Large and not your firewall? Greg (193)
601760 2007-10-15 20:49:00 Its Go Large. There are others having the same issues. My router is forwarding all the right ports, firewall is not activated, i have no issues with WoW or P2P applications.

There are several threads floating about other sites that give evidence Go Large blocks steam during peak times.

I've contacted Telecom and they are looking into it. However there time of really awful service is at an end, and I will switch to Xnet this week.

And thanks for all your time, folks ;)
