2007-10-15 06:10:00 | Hi Team Lately ive had this problem where i cant connect to msn. If i bypass the router, eg go from modem to pc then no problems at all but when using the router, i cant connect to msn. This happened before and it wasnt until my ISP changed my IP address that i was able to connect to msn. Router has no rules set and everything appears as normal. This time id rather try and fix it before waiting for my IP to change. My IP can last for a month or 2. Sometimes even longer. I did some googling and found that flushing the DNS cache can help. But being that this problem only happens when the router is connected, can i flush the dns on the router or something? there was no difference after using ipconfig /flushdns in command prompt. Any help appreciated :)

2007-10-15 08:11:00 | HeyaS Speedy The router is a SMC router with wireless. It was never a problem before and ive had the router some time now. So not sure what has happened recently to make the pc not connect to msn. I never had rules/added ports before this happened. Im stumped! Apart from asking Ihug to change my IP? Which seems a bit silly, but sounds like the only thing i can do.

2007-10-15 08:23:00 | We're talking about MSN Messenger right? What error does it give you, when you run it?? What model have you got of the SMC wireless router?

2007-10-15 09:25:00 | heyas Mark thats so i can service a couple of laptops in the house as well for networking (via wireless). incidently as well, msn messenger cant be accessed also on them. hey speedy its a smc 2804wbr barrigade g wireless router. actually i should say windows live messenger. when i run the troubleshooter everything gets a tick, except wireless though i dont see what that has to do with anything as the pc doesnt have anything wireless on it. the error code is 80072745

2007-10-15 09:28:00 | your modem might have a release renew feature when you may be able to grab a new ip addy yourself. if it does try that, also fowarding any ports you need can help. but that only works if you are the only one on the network. as would kill other pc's access to those ports. also, if the router is there for adding more pc's to the network, as in modem only has one lan port. then see about getting a hardware firewall instead. does the same job but has built in firewall. EDIT// ah i see its for wireless. have ya tried flashing the router to default settings? or it already at the default?

2007-10-15 10:03:00 | hi cho renewed both the modem (tried 3 times and same IP on reconnect) and also reset the router to default settings and even changed the lan port on the router that goes to the pc. same thing! incidently even after resetting the router. the laptops (wireless) and pc (wired) get the same IP addresses.

2007-10-15 10:08:00 | hmm, thats not good. could be the issue right there. that needs fixed before anything else me thinks. which is done by telling each pc to get their ip from the router again

2007-10-15 10:10:00 | Hmm, some say thats its the system clock being out of whack. Anyway, here are some solutions courtesy of Google: tinyurl.com Try these steps and see if it works.
