| 601631 | 2007-10-15 02:59:00 | Hi, I'm looking to upgrade the RAM in this computer. It is a Compaq and there is that silly label going on about if the seal is broken or removed warranty will be void on the back of the case. If I remove it will it actually be void or is it there just to put people off? Also I'm not sure what RAM to get. Here is a screen shot from CPU-Z.img296.imageshack.us I'm just wondering really if PC 3200 400MHz would work and also does it matter about what PIN the RAM is? If so what should I get? Any replies are appreciated :thumbs: Thank you. |

Unfortunately the site's in the US and I'm not too sure they'll sell overseas...but you will at least know where to start with your quest. |

| 601633 | 2007-10-15 03:31:00 | if it's a desktop pc then pc3200 (ddr400) 184pin should be fine......however some brands of ram dont 'play' well with others so that' is one consideration. the pins DO matter theres no way you will fit 200 pin or DDR2 or 168 pin ram into a 184 pin slot...... | drcspy (146) | ||
| 601634 | 2007-10-15 03:33:00 | According to the first pic, it should take DDR400. And yup it does matter how many pins the ram has. Or it wont fit. And yup when they say you'll void the warranty (if its under warranty), they mean it. If you open up the case and it dies, say byebye to the warranty. Wherever u got it from, wont fix it for free. WHAT's the model of this Compaq?? |

| 601635 | 2007-10-15 03:35:00 | There was a "bit of disagreement" on this issue a few days ago. The seal is there as a warranty protection from Compaq, "technically" if a non compaq repair agent goes into the PC to install or upgrade components and something is damaged or the PC failes at a later date then Compaq can and have used that as an excuse not to cover any warranty. When a Compaq agent breaks the seal ,the PC's serial number is recorded by compaq as being entered. No Matter what anyone says - you can read the seal and what it says - so your choice. |

| 601636 | 2007-10-15 04:17:00 | It is a Compaq Presario SR1765AN and on the Compaq site h10010.www1.hp.com down the bottom it has 1 GB PC2-5300 (DDR2 667MHz) DIMM so i went to trade me and found this, so I'm guessing this would work? www.trademe.co.nz Thanks very much for the help |

It may fit the board, but may not work with it, or the other RAM. If you purchase it,make sure you can return it for a refund if it doesn't work on your Compaq. |

| 601639 | 2007-10-18 18:10:00 | It didn't fit, because of the pin size. The stuff I bought was 240 Pin so im guessing mine should be 184?? If i were to buy PC3200 400MHz 184 pin would i be 100% for it to fit and work? | w000t (11562) | ||
| 601640 | 2007-10-18 19:01:00 | bit odd that compaq had the wrong ram listed however according to those screen shots you had put up you already had pc3200 .........and that IS 184pin ram.......standard DDR .........NOT ddr2 | drcspy (146) | ||
