601422 2007-10-14 22:53:00 For ages you couldn't get Xtra email to work in OE if you had a Paradise/Telstra Internet connection.
I have several customers PC's here, all with Xtra Email accounts, but I'm on Telstra, according to Xtra this has now changed and it will work OK as An Xtra Email account will work through another ISP (Outlook or Outlook Express, Web mails fine) - Any one know if this is actually correct or are Xtra just playing silly again.

601425 2007-10-14 23:11:00 I sued to work at Vodafone and we always had the same problem. Am I right in thinking its because Xtra perposly use different port numbers if you arn't connecting via their internet connection? Bastards.

So then you have to pay 2.50 a month to the bastards so you can have "remote" access

601426 2007-10-14 23:29:00 I personally don't use Xtra email, I only have a minimum dial up account that I can use to test customers connections, or use on my lappy if I needed a dial up connection or in case customers have a user name / password issue.

But in the past I couldn't test their Email client because Xtra wouldn't allow the smtp server to work through another ISP, xtra told me that the only way was to get an telecom phone line, which I wasn't prepared to do, not paying extra costs for something I would hardly use.

But that now appears to have changed, xtra says you can use who ever you want for a ISP and their mail will work, never tried it, and didn't want to speed ages testing if it didn't work - Maybe they are getting soft

601427 2007-10-15 08:41:00 I think the reason for this may be that smtp.xtra.co.nz did not require you to logon to send e-mail, so they blocked it from outside xtra.
Since the Yahoo!Bubble fiasco, they have introduced send.xtra.co.nz which does require a logon and password & so they seem to be allowing use from outside.
