601272 2007-10-14 19:18:00 Hi Guys

I have just set up a new PC with XP.

What is the easiest way to get rid of MSN ?

It keeps popping up in the system tray.

I can disable it using Msconfig.exe I suppose, but is that the best way to get rid of it completely ?

I don't ever want to see it again !

Does anyone ever us it ?

Regards

601273 2007-10-14 19:24:00 Run the 'Set Program Access and Defaults' (Should be on the Start Menu)

Under Custom scroll down to the Instant Messaging software and untick the box next to Windows Messenger (Enable access to this program)

601274 2007-10-14 19:45:00 Or even better, uninstall it completely.

Control panel > add/remove programs > add/remove Windows components > untick Windows Messenger > Next > Finish.

That way you will never see it again

601275 2007-10-14 19:48:00 Click your start button / Run / type/paste in the following line:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Press OK and restart your computer.

I use Thunderbird instead.

What's MSN messanger got to do with running OE?
LiquidSolidity (1589)
601278 2007-10-14 21:14:00 OE hooks into MSN when it (OE) starts. This can be disabled under Options, however. linw (53)

MSN Messenger runs by default when OE is used as an email client. And it makes itself difficult to remove or stop.
