602012 2007-10-17 00:51:00 IE is never even going to come close to FF. Who gives a damn if it uses 60 or 70 or 200 MB of RAM? Unlike IE, it actually works. wratterus (105)
602013 2007-10-17 01:14:00 When will people stop being so stupid. If you think IE only uses 16488K you are greatly mistaken as there is so much loaded within the OS unlike FF. Without seeing the Windows code there is no way of working out how much ram IE uses but at a guess because of Windows programing I would say it would be way more than FF.

Ok, so the marginal increase in RAM caused by FF is caused by MS not releasing its code to them. Hey they own it dont they?

Bottom line is it takes more memory than IE to run, the fact that half of IE MIGHT be using windows to run IS GOOD FARKING PROGRAMMING in my book of simple simons logic.

So stupid here thinks he is right... over to you einstein, or should I say Albert?

602014 2007-10-17 03:23:00 I thought MS was supposed to make available hooks and links to its basic Windows system so that other programs would not be disadvantaged vis a vis microsoft.

602015 2007-10-17 04:08:00 "firefox is a load of bloated crap" hmmm what a description and an over exaggeration at that too. Sure it may require more memory to run and mine does tend to leak a bit of memory. but after 1 minute of googling and another minute of applying some fixes, its now using less memory. My time is precious but hey no biggie the fixes worked sweet :) And yes, my firefox starts about 2 seconds slower than IE. Its well documented that IE has more holes than a fisherman's net and being that most viruses are designed for IE, thats another reason why the masses are switching to FF. I did it a few years back and never looked back. I gave IE7 a go but wasnt impressed at all. I do a lot of virus fixes for friends and family and always install FF on their pc and guess what, i rarely have to go back to those same peope ever :)

To say that IE is superior based on

Faster loading start time
Uses less memory

LOL... Jeepers... In most cases the above criteria is probably what you'd use to make comparisons of similar software as we all want the speed and obviously less memory usage. Been a while since ive used IE but gave it a go today and ran it for some of today.. sure it loaded pages a bit faster (not much) and used less memory but the options in FF are what i prefer and its been my bread and butter browser for years.

Wont change too unless something comes along far superior.

That was my 2 cents worth :)

You don't know what you are talking about. I did not say that MS had to release their code so FF could use it and I am glad they can't. I won't bother reading one of your programing books. As said before there is no way of knowing without seeing the code how much ram IE uses and how efficient it is.

I have done the same and got people off Outlook & OE. The results are very noticeable. Every now and again I have a look at the email source of a bunch of spam and virtually all of it comes courtesy of O & OE.
