601481 2007-10-15 05:42:00 Nope. This is a garden variety rar file a friend sent me, called Art Master. What is "Art Master"? Jen (38)
601482 2007-10-15 05:48:00 From what I can find on the web, it is a standalone art program, quite unlike any of the known graphic progs such as photoshop.

Recently the company that produced ArtMaster went bust, taking with it what appears to be one of the best art programs in the world :( Very sad.

ArtMaster and ArtMasterPro (www.fo2pix.com) website.

As you know, PF1 does not support or give help with pirated software ...

601484 2007-10-15 07:07:00 I understand what you're saying Jen. The program and its possible trojan have long disappeared into cyberspace.

My original question was about AVG generating a relatively unusual number of false positives. Since this thread started I've found a lot of Google info that confirms this. My AVG is also destined for the bin. :badpc:

601485 2007-10-15 07:14:00 Just get Avast and give it a full scan and after that, you should be fine. beeswax34 (63)
601486 2007-10-15 07:33:00 Thanks beeswax34. This particular prog has been erased so I can't scan it. And I don't think I'll bother with AVG again. There'll be other good freebie backup scanners around to replace it. braindead (1685)
601487 2007-10-15 11:27:00 give VirusTotal (http://www.virustotal.com/) a go if you only want to check one file

this online single file scanner can run your file through 32 different antivirus engines

601489 2007-10-15 17:22:00 Yeah, I have noticed a few issues with AVG in the past, hence I avoid it.
As for a replacement AV, try AntiVir. Its free, and in a recent APC trial, outperformed a lot of paid for AV's (in fact the only one it didn't beat was Kaspersky)
