601905 2007-10-15 21:03:00 I am offically at the end of my tether.
For the last couple of weeks, we haven't been able to hold a connection for more than an hour at a time. Recently, we will lose our connection every 10 minutes or so, and every couple of minutes if I even think about trying to play WoW. We use a Linksys Wireless Router/Modem (Not sure on the model), and a D-Link DSL-502T, connected via Ethernet. When our connection gets droped, the ADSL light on the D-Link will go out, and it re-connects in a minute or 2. However with the Linksys, the ADSL light says on, and we have to re-start the modem to get the connection again. We are with Xnet. We have done everything. Disconnected everything in the house except for the modem, as the (fantastic) tech service suggested, we had a Telecom tech come in to test the line, which apparently is fine, all the filters/splitters are fine.

And yet we still get these random disconnections! Its driving me nuts! Any suggestions would be fantastic.

601906 2007-10-15 21:05:00 Switch to telstraclear if you live in an area that has it. Hitech (9024)
601907 2007-10-15 21:08:00 used to have this problem using a crappy DSE XH1169 i think it was, can't remember though, and it was because i was creating too many connections, and the modem could not handle it and stop new ones from being made, and also stop old ones from being closed. always resulted in the need for a reboot of the router. 601909 2007-10-15 21:13:00 How have you got them connected up.
Why are you using two routers anyway.

Sorry, didn't make myself clear.
They are not connected at the same time. Either one is connected, or the other. We switch between them since we have a laptop with wireless.

601911 2007-10-15 21:24:00 Did you remember about the Sky Digital phone line if you have Sky.

I would get Xnet to log a fault with Telecom and ask for a port reset or reconfiguration as this can fix these type of problems.

601912 2007-10-15 21:24:00 Have you tried changing the telephone lead that goes from the wall socket to the Modem/router ? That sometimes can give problems. Or even removing the filter and trying that, any "link" in the chain from the wall to the router can be a failure point.

As for the Modems, personally I wouldn't touch D-Link, seen many give "strange "problems, even though they appear to be working correctly. The Linksys Router I feel is the better bet.

601913 2007-10-15 21:36:00 You need to find out the model of the Linksys, it might be a broad band router, I have one of these and it does NOT have a modem part to it, so needs to be connected to a separate modem. The_End_Of_Reality (334)
601914 2007-10-15 21:50:00 We've tried everything we can within the house, and we still get the problem. And yes, we remembered the Sky.
We don't like D-Links either, after an experience with a certain Modem/Router model, but we use this different one simply so we don't we to walk into a different room to reset it everytime our 'net gets dropped.

I'll call Xnet again about it though and ask for the port reset/reconfiguration, and see how I go.
