2007-10-14 23:01:00 | I have a USB mouse plugged into my laptop almost all the time. Sometimes, if I put my laptop into "sleep" mode, once it resumes from sleep the mouse won't work. It appears that the USB port has been shut off, even though there's power going to the mouse. The only way to get it going again is rebooting the system. I have tried: - Changing the power options so that USB is never turned off - Unplugging and replugging the mouse - Using a different USB port I am running Windows Vista Ultimate, on a Dell Inspiron 640m laptop. Does anyone have any suggestions? I downloaded a patch (KB941600) which apparently would solve this, however it hasn't helped.

2007-10-14 23:18:00 | Could be a setting in the BIOS. Is there anything in particular I should be looking for? I have been through the BIOS settings before and they're fairly basic (this is a Dell laptop).

2007-10-14 23:22:00 | What version of the BIOS is on it? Looks like its upto A10 now as of 11/4/07. Might be something under the USB settings, like Wake up, or something

I have just gone and enabled the "Wake Up" setting - allowing a USB device such as a mouse to bring a PC out of sleep mode, as well as disabled "USB Emulation" mode. These were two things which I didn't think were relevant originally, but I'll wait and see. Thanks Speedy. |

2007-10-15 01:02:00 | Hmm... I only recently enabled "Hybrid Sleep" to see if it would help, as I was getting the same problem with it off. Will give it another go though and see what happens.

2007-10-15 18:24:00 | Those changes haven't helped. I am still running into the issue. The exact sequence of events is this: - Laptop on mains power with USB mouse connected. - Unplug laptop from mains, using battery. - Unplug the mouse - Pick up laptop and take it elsewhere to use - Put laptop into standby - Plug in the mains - Leave laptop overnight - Resume laptop from sleep - Plug in USB mouse At this point, the USB mouse refuses to be recognised.
