602611 2007-10-17 23:26:00 Hi all,

I have finally found what I want in the way of a tv tuner.

www.hauppauge.co.uk

www.playtech.co.nz

Playtech has a great deal on it at the moment, I'm just wondering if anyone has this model and could comment on it, or perhaps recommend something better? I really have no idea when it comes to TV tuners, apart from knowing Hauppauge is a damn good brand.

Cheers. ;)

Edit: Oh bugger wrong forum. A mod can move this if they feel the urge.

602612 2007-10-17 23:41:00 I bought a 3000 a couple of weeks ago, haven't quite gotten around to plugging it into the dish yet, will let you know if something goes awol.
Handya has the 4000 model (see the thread a few days ago about SKYTV for his comment) ... I suggest you PM him or something about it.

602614 2007-10-18 00:30:00 A mate of mine has the 4000 aswell, bloody good cards doubt you'll have any issues. Hauppauge is well support by all the media front ends etc Pete O'Neil (6584)
602615 2007-10-18 00:36:00 The 4000 is looking that little bit sweeter than the 3000 right now.... :p wratterus (105)
602616 2007-10-18 00:41:00 No point bothering with the 4000 all its brings to the table is support for DVB-S2 which is just high def over satellite a service we wont be getting in NZ. You wont see any gains for the increase in cost.

My friend was a muppet and shouldn't have wasted his money on the 4000 when the 3000 would have sufficed.

602617 2007-10-18 00:50:00 Fair call, if that's all that's different. Save $50. wratterus (105)

What sort of hi-def are we getting in NZ if it is not DVB-S2?

Hi-Def will be transmitted via DVD-T next year, with the first Hi-Def content expected to be the Olympics

I looked at the freeview website, and it said that hi def signal will be transmitted using the old UHF aerials, which does seem a bit backwards. It says there are no current plans to transmit it over satellite, but I suppose they always may in the future, which would make the 4000 model worth it if they did decide to. I may hold off on one of these tuners until next year once they have got hi def working.
