602408 2007-10-17 19:50:00 A faster video card will likely make no difference as a 6600 should work fine in Vista.

More memory (2-3GB if 32bit - 4GB+ if 64bit) & faster CPU will help.

602409 2007-10-17 19:57:00 Ram is the best option if your hard drive is spinning slower than 5400 RPM you may want to look into updating that as well considering thats where your virtual memory resides and is accessed quite often depening on how you use your machine. Also may I get a bit of attention to my thread so I can at least see what is going on to troubleshoot further pressf1.pcworld.co.nz Thanks and good luck with the upgrade qwert2332 (12933)
602410 2007-10-17 22:05:00 Turn the Vista Aero theme off and see how it does. If it is still sluggish then it could be software related. trinsic (6945)
602411 2007-10-17 22:07:00 is it possible to put the virtual memory / swap file on a usb key? obviously it will have to be plugged in all the time, but would this speed things up. just a thought, might be worth trying. Cho (12330)
602412 2007-10-17 22:19:00 Vista's ReadyBoost feature is quite nifty. I have a 4GB USB flashdrive that I use as a ReadyBoost device, and it speeds up my PC noticeably. Vista OS loads in just 4 seconds, whereas it usually took 7 seconds, and most general applications load faster.

You might want to give ReadyBoost a go.

no way....do not do that.....usb transfer i believe is slower than your HDD

Yeah, a faster HDD will definitely help Vista and also raise your score. Other than RAM, its a good way to help your laptop/PC out.
