602132 2007-10-16 06:37:00 I am about to purchase anew PC with a 22" wide LCD panel;) . I will use this mainly with my new PC, but every now and again I would like to use it with my old PC, a 1GHz Pentium III with Win XP. The graphics card is not integrated onto the motherboard, but an actual PCI card.

The question I'm asking is whether the old PC's graphics card (32MB, WinFast) will be able to support the max resolution of the 22" screen (res 1680 x 1050)? I would rather use the PC with the display not all stretched out to fill the screen! I have tried using it's current CRT monitor, but the resolution is capped at the highest resolution of the monitor.

I have looked on google and the max resolution for a 32MB card seems to be ~2048 x 1536.

By way of comparison, the max res for a 8MB card is 1600 x 1200 (according to Virtual PC).

Is there a download that will tell me the max resolution, or is there a generic number depending on the spec of the card?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

602133 2007-10-16 06:42:00 You'll be fine, chances are the monitor will support both CRT and DVI connections, CRT supports a maximum resolution of 2048 x 1536 as your already aware of and far more than you need. DVI can handle a maximum of 2098 x 1311 so will also be fine. Pete O'Neil (6584)
602134 2007-10-16 10:42:00 I just plugged my 22inch samsung into a cheap acer notebook of 18mnths (old) and it worked... not bad... but of course full resolution is another matter... and certainly at 32 bit I am not sure... zcc (50)
