2007-10-19 14:37:00 | Another nice interesting lil review: www.wired.com What was the link for the Ihug mirror? Im capped, but getting it from Citylink now :) should be done soon, then I'll be upgrading two boxes, dual-booting one, and a fresh install on another :D Ive been figuring out how to use Beryl, apparently its only marginally different to using CompizFusion (Except CompizFusion has FirePaint instead of just a red line...!) so that should be cool :) Just setup a network printer for the first time today in 7.04, was so easy it wasnt even funny! Simplest installation of a printer Ive ever had :D

2007-10-19 18:08:00 | Ran the LiveCD on laptop (curiousity sakes), must say it looks a lot more polished than any of the predecessors I've used (6.0 being the last one). No bugs on startup (well except my wireless which attempts to use the problematic bcm43xx module). Might throw it on later, we'll see how I like this new Fedora 7 install I currently have on the laptop | Myth (110) | |
2007-10-19 20:31:00 | compiz-fusion has way more features than beryl. its almost like beryl is the demo version. anyway. i upgraded to 7.10 last night, and now my desktop draws really really slowly, makes scrolling down the forums a real hassle. if its a driver issue ill reinsatll the drivers. if i could find em 82865G Integrated graphics controller. i would have thought since 7.04 had them already that 7.10 would just either use em or update to its ones. but i guess not.

2007-10-20 04:58:00 | any local mirrors of Xubuntu ?? | tweak'e (69) | |
2007-10-20 09:53:00 | From what I can tell there are no NZ mirrors for Xbuntu. You can get Ubuntu, Kubuntu (and I think Edubuntu) from the NZ mirror (Citylink). Have given Ubuntu 7.1 a whirl over the laptop, also checked out Kubuntu. Although I prefer KDE, Ubuntu seems a lot more polished and is a keeper on the laptop (setting up eth0 and bcm43xx via ndiswrapper were a breeze). Anyone local wanting a free Kubuntu disc?

2007-10-20 22:03:00 | I tried to install the live version of gutsy gibbon and got this message Attached file: LinuxMsg(2).jpg (www.imagef1.net.nz(2).jpg) (10 KB). This means nothing to me. Can anyone help? The PC already has feisty fawn successfully installed, so there shoudn't be any fundamental problem (I guess.)

2007-10-20 22:42:00 | Looks like modprobe crashed - which stage of the install or boot process were you at when you got that error? Also is there any chance we could see the whole screen? Can't do much diagnosis with just the info in your pic. | Erayd (23) | |
